Introduction tagline

Dr. Mario is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. mod Smash Remix. He was added into the mod in its v0.8.2 release on August 9, 2019. Initially, Dr. Mario completely replaced Mario due to it not being possible at the time to add new character slots into Smash 64. With the release of v0.9 on October 28th of that year, however, it became possible for players to use both Dr. Mario and Mario in the mod. Dr. Mario plays very similarly to his appearance in canon Smash games, and lifts several moves from his Ultimate iteration. Unlike in official Smash games, Dr. Mario represents his own Dr. Mario universe with a unique series symbol, and is joined by another doctor, Dr. Luigi.

Similarly to the official Smash games, Dr. Mario shares his voice clips with Mario, those being Charles Martinet's portrayal of Mario in Super Mario 64.

Attributes[edit]

Dr. Mario functions similarly to his Melee self, being a slower, harder-hitting version of Mario.

Remix 1P Mode[edit]

Dr. Mario can appear as an ordinary opponent, giant opponent, or as a multi-man team, where he is fought on the Dr. Mario stage. Starting in v2.0.0, he can also appear in Stage 4 as a team with Dr. Luigi called "Dr. Mario Bros.", where they are fought on the Dr. Mario stage.

All-Star Mode[edit]

In All-Star Mode, Dr. Mario and his allies can appear on the Dr. Mario stage.

Profile[edit]

When he isn't busy foiling Bowser's schemes, Mario throws on the lab coat and goes toe-to-toe with the pesky multi-colored viruses that infect his patients.

He works tirelessly day and night at the Mushroom Kingdom Hospital developing his amazing Megavitamins with the aid of his trusty assistant, nurse Toadstool.

Trivia[edit]

  • Prior to version 0.9, Dr. Mario's character select screen portrait was based on a render for Mario from Super Mario 64, but has since been changed to resemble his Ultimate render.
  • Dr. Mario was originally intended to have his Melee forward smash, but this was removed during development.
  • When Dr. Mario was first released for Smash Remix in version 0.8.2, his green alt was a much brighter green, resembling his appearance on Dr. Mario for the Game Boy. This was changed in version 0.9.2 to match the official Smash titles' green alts.
  • Before version 2.0.0, Dr. Mario's polygon variant was identical to Mario and Luigi's. It has since been changed with embellishments to slightly resemble a Virus.
  • Dr. Mario is the only character with a sex kick that gets stronger in the latter half of the move.
