Marina (SR)
Marina Shakes things up!!!
Introduction tagline

Marina is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. mod Smash Remix. She was added to the mod in its 1.3.0 release on February 1, 2023. Marina is the third playable character added to the mod to not be in an official Smash game after Mad Piano and Conker, and the second after Conker to have her own slot on the character select screen. As with Conker, she also is the second playable character to represent an entirely new universe not present in the official games, in her case being the Mischief Makers universe.

Marina's voice samples are borrowed from the Japanese version of Mischief Makers where Masami Suzuki voices her.

Attributes[edit]

Marina can perform up to five mid-air jumps.

Moveset[edit]

Name Damage Description
Neutral attack 3% Marina throws two punches before doing rapid jabs with her leg.
3%
1% (loop)
Forward tilt 11% Does a roundhouse kick.
Up tilt 12% An upward arcing headbutt.
Down tilt 10% Marina swipes her hand across the ground.
Dash attack 12% Marina does a shoulder tackle while jetting forward.
Forward Smash 18% A dropkick
Up smash 18% Marina thrusts her hand up in the air.
Down smash 16% A split kick.
Neutral aerial 15% A sex kick
Forward aerial 6% Does two kicks in front of her, like Captain Falcon's forward aerial.
12%
Back aerial 16% Marina throws an overhand behind her.
Up aerial 15% Marina kicks up.
Down aerial 3% (each hit) Does a drill kick.
Grab - Marina reaches forward with her hand.
Forward throw 5% (carry), 5% (each shake), 5% (throw), 6% (blue gem) Marina holds and carries the opponent in front of her. Functionally similar to Donkey Kong's Kong Karry, but the opponent being held in front of her instead of on her back does mean that she could block projectiles from other enemies with the opponent she's carrying. Marina has the option between throwing the opponent away with the A button or shaking the opponent down with the B button. Marina can shake the opponent as much as she wants until they break away from her grasp, similar to a pummel. If Marina shakes the enemy, then a blue gem spawns from them. The blue gem can then either be stashed with the Clanpot or thrown at the opponent twice before it breaks.
Back throw 16% Marina swings around before throwing the opponent back.

Neutral special Jet Snatch 16% Marina jets forward and grabs any opponent in front of her before throwing them away. The player can hold any of the four cardinal directions to direct the throw.
Up special Afterburner Upper 16% Marina does a rising uppercut.
Down special Clanpot 9% (green gem), 2% (shuriken, each hit), 5% (boomerang), 37% (bomb) Marina pulls out a Clanpot and holds it in front of her. Marina keeps holding the Clanpot out until the player lets go of B. The Clanpot can absorb enemy projectiles just like Mr. Game & Watch's Oil Panic. Marina can also put items and blue gems she gets from her forward throw into the Clanpot by performing her down special while holding them. Each item and projectile Marina puts in the Clanpot will increase its charge level, up to four levels, with some items and attacks, such as a Bob-omb, being worth more than one charge. Marina can shake one of four items out of the Clanpot, depending on how much she has stored inside, by either pressing B a second time while the Clanpot is drawn or by simply pulling it out once it reaches max storage capacity (indicated by Marina flashing and gaining a sparkle on her hand). If she does this while nothing's stored in the Clanpot, then Marina will simply shake her head in disappointment.

A level 1 charge will spawn a green gem, which is a stronger version of the blue gem from her forward throw. A level 2 charge will spawn a shuriken, which hits 7 times and knocks the opponent towards the direction it was thrown from. A level 3 charge spawns a boomerang, which functions similarly to the boomerang item from later Smash games, dealing weak damage and knockback and returning to Marina after reaching maximum distance. A full level 4 charge will spawn a Clanbomb, which deals heavy damage and knockback to whoever it hits.

Trivia[edit]

  • While Marina is primarily voiced in Japanese, holding the taunt button while shaking the opponent or the Clanpot will cause her to say "Shake, shake!", as heard in the English dub of Mischief Makers.
  • Marina's update was also the one that added optional D-Pad controls to the game, a nod to the fact that Mischief Makers was one of the few Nintendo 64 games to use the D-Pad in place of the analog stick exclusively.
  • Marina's intro tagline "Marina Shakes Things Up!!!" is a reference to Mischief Makers' shake-based combat system and her infamous "Shake, shake!" voice line.
  • Marina’s polygon variant bears a slight resemblance to Headdy (albeit with two antennae instead of one head feather), the main protagonist of Dynamite Headdy, which Treasure also developed. Her polygon variant's lack of arms also references her appearance in Rakugaki Showtime (in which she features an updated armless design).
