Neutral special Dragon Ball 12% / 16% (sweet spot) Throws a powerful punch that creates a giant flashing electric ball. The hurtbox rapidly appears and disappears five times during the attack, allowing an opponent to potentially get hit additional times if the hurtbox reappears before they can be sufficiently knocked away. The arm acts as a sweet spot if the attack is used at point-blank range. The name is a reference to Dragon Ball.
Up special Health Absorb 8% (+1% for every 1% absorbed) Performs a short range one-handed grab aimed directly in front of and above him. If it connects, recovers a small portion of damage while inflicting it on the opponent before slamming them to the ground. In the air, functions like Falcon Dive, but will transition into a ground slam after a successful grab. While a successful ground grab always drains 12%, an aerial grab will continue to drain until the two characters hit the ground.
Down special Earthquake 10% (shockwave) / 14% (air) Slams his fist into the ground, causing a shockwave that reaches up to two character lengths away on either side, knocking opponents upward. In the air, functions like a non-stop Falcon Kick, with the added shockwave when it hits the ground.

Trivia[edit]

  • As was the case in Masahiro Sakurai's footage of the Dragon King: The Fighting Game prototype, Dragon King's voice samples are pulled from the "Two Men Fight in Alley Way with Heavy Punches and Grunts" stock soundscape. At the same time, the "Howie scream" plays when he is KO'd.
  • Dragon King was later ported to the Brawl mod Super Smash REX through a collaboration between the two mods' development teams, with his properties from Remix being retained "down to the frame data". The collaboration came about as a result of ALM5252, one of the major creative forces behind REX, helping design Dr. Luigi for Remix based on his REX incarnation.[1]
  • Dragon King was originally selected as a D-Pad variant of Captain Falcon before being moved to the bonus character slot in v2.0.0. This is a slight reference to Dragon King's initial moveset being the blueprint/basis for what would become Captain Falcon's moveset.
  • Dragon King is the only character to come from a game that was never released.
  • Dragon King is the only character that cannot appear in any battles in Remix 1P.
  • Dragon King's intro tagline "Dragon King Reclaims The Throne!!!" makes references to royalty terms (king, throne).
    • This is also a reference to Dragon King reclaiming his spot as the original fighter before Nintendo characters were conceptualized. This is evident in his reveal trailer when the screen briefly flashes "Fighter 0" before he appears in front of Mario, who, as of Ultimate, is classified as Fighter #01.
  • In Sakurai's previewed prototypes of Smash 64 when it was still known as Dragon King: The Fighting Game, Dragon King was never programmed to have Special moves, similar to the Fighting Polygon Team in the final game. When interpolating him as a full character, the Remix Team took inspiration for his special moves from the original Dragon King proposal document that Sakurai previewed in his YouTube video "Super Smash Bros. Game Concepts".
    • Looking at the proposal document, we can see "Projectile" became Dragon King's Neutral Special (which the Remix Team renamed "Dragon Ball"), "Health Absorption" became his Up Special, and "Earthquake" became his Down Special. This leaves the other seven techniques Sakurai showed left unused, though "Wide-Range Attack" was adapted as his side special when the character was officially ported to Super Smash REX.
