The Koopa Clown Car (クッパクラウン, Koopa Clown) is one of Bowser's methods of travel. It is the shape of a bowl, big enough to hold Bowser and perhaps one other person simultaneously, with a small propeller on the bottom that propels the whole thing up in the air. There are no obvious controls; Bowser seems to be able to control it (and call it from a distance) mentally. The body has a smiling clown face on it; this is because Bowser has had it since infant-hood.

The Koopa Clown Car's earliest appearance was the final boss battle in Super Mario World, in which Mario had to defeat Bowser as he flew around the stage in the machine. It held Big Steelies and mariowiki to use as projectiles, as well as Bowser and the captive Princess Peach. The Clown Car appears in other games as a form of travel for Bowser, such as in mariowiki. mariowiki revealed that Bowser Jr. has his own, smaller Koopa Clown Car titled the "mariowiki" and uses it to battle Mario, which returns in other games. He also uses his father's Koopa Clown Car much later in the game.

Initial speculation theorized that the Koopa Clown Car would be Bowser's entrance in Brawl. However, it turned out that it was only used as a plot device in the Subspace Emissary, allowing Bowser to get out of tight spots without having to deal with any of the heroes. Unlike in Melee, there is no trophy of the Koopa Clown Car.
The Koopa Clown Car's only appearance is in the Bowser Kidnaps Peach/Zelda cutscene in the Subspace Emissary mode, in which Bowser, having stolen a trophified Peach/Zelda, uses it to escape from the heroes.

The Koopa Clown Car's first appeared in the final boss battle of Super Mario World, in which Bowser rides it across the arena. It holds a seemingly infinite supply of Big Steelies and Mechakoopas for Bowser to attack Mario with, and in the last phase of the battle it directly attempts to crush Mario. Princess Peach is also kept prisoner in it and during the battle occasionally aids Mario by throwing Super Mushrooms at him.

The Clown Car made several reapperances in later games as one of Bowser's main means of transportation, often during cutscenes. New Super Mario Bros. Wii introduced Bowser Jr.'s own, smaller Koopa Clown Car, the Junior Clown Car, which he uses to battle Mario; he also uses his father's Koopa Clown Car much later in the game. The Koopalings ride the original Koopa Clown Car all together in New Super Mario Bros. 2. Super Mario Maker made the Koopa Clown Kar a placeable level element which can be ridden by Bowser, Bowser Jr., NPCs and even Mario himself.
