Article on Wikipedia Duck Hunt

Duck Hunt (ダックハント, Duckhunt) is a stage that appears in Super Smash Bros. 4, based directly on the NES game Duck Hunt. It was unlockable in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at launch, and was added to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in a free update on September 30th, 2015.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Duck Hunt is fought here in their unlocking battle.

Stage layout

The main body of the stage is a large dirt platform covered by grass, whose sides, outside the boundaries of the "screen", can be wall-jumped on. The bush on the right and the foliage of the tree on the left act as soft platforms.

Occasionally, a patch of grass may pop up in front of the main field of grass, which hides characters and items behind it due to the stage's 2D effect.

During the match, one or two ducks will appear at a time. When hit, they will plunge into the grass and the score, which displayed at the bottom of the screen, will increase. The ducks will sometimes drop items. The 8-bit dog will then appear to collect the fallen ducks or laugh if no ducks were hit, concurrently acting as a temporary platform. After ten ducks either get knocked down or fly away, if the quota is met, the next round will begin. If all ten ducks are knocked down, a "Perfect" sign will be displayed in the center of the stage just as in the original Duck Hunt, which adds 10,000 points to the total. The fighters can clear up to the 10th round, with a maximum score of 158,000, before the score resets to zero and they have to "play" again from round 1. Green Ducks will give 500 points, Blue will give 1,000 and Red Ducks will give 1,500. In 8-Player Smash, no ducks or dog appear at all.

During each round on this stage there are both sets of one duck and two ducks, combining both game A and game B of the original Duck Hunt.

Ω Form

The Ω Form removes the bush, the ducks, the tree and the dog. Additionally, it also does not contain patches of grass the player can hide in.

Origin

The stage is based on the original Duck Hunt game. The look of the stage is based on the game's native 4:3 aspect ratio, with the pillarboxes on either side acting as empty space in the stage.

Trivia

  • Star KOs and screen KOs occur in the 3DS version, but not in the Wii U version. This is also shared with the 3DS version of Super Mario Maker.
  • Although the fighters are 2D, the ground, tree, bush and moving grass sections have raised 3D parts.
  • While the score counter stays in place in the Wii U version, it moves with the camera in the 3DS version. This doesn't apply with the Ω form as the score counter stays in a fixed position, like in the Wii U version.
  • In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS's All-Star Mode and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's Duck Hunt unlock battle, the stage's dog and ducks do not appear.
  • This is the only shared stage in Super Smash Bros. 4 to have an alternate track on the 3DS version that does not appear on the same stage on the Wii U.
