Eggrobos first appeared in ''Sonic 3 & Knuckles'', acting as enemies. While Knuckles would face one that piloted an Egg Mobile (this Eggrobo emulated its creator's battle tactics and machines that he used in Sonic's version of those boss battles), all three playable characters (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) would face hordes of Eggrobos when they went to Sky Sanctuary Zone in their efforts to not only save Angel Island and the Master Emerald, but destroy the Death Egg as well. The Eggrobos acted as the sole enemies of the level, a role they would later reprise in the ''Sonic Generations'' version of Sky Sanctuary Zone.
