Let's Make BIG Moves 2026 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in New York, New York from January 23rd-25th, 2026. It was the first Let's Make Moves event since Let's Make BIG Moves 2023, to not use the "Luminosity Makes Moves" title, as Luminosity Gaming's partnership ended in 2025, which was last used in Luminosity Makes Moves Miami 2025. The major invitational Vars Ultimate Summit 1 was held nearby on the Thursday before the tournament.
Tournament summary[edit]
The event was the first supermajor of the UltRank 2026 season, reaching P tier during registration, though disqualifications dropped it below the P tier cutoff. Upon the event's announcement, a Steve ban was indirectly mentioned during the advertisement, implemented by the decision of tournament organizers instead of a community vote like in previous iterations. However, tournament organizers later received a call from Nintendo regarding the ban, forcing them to lift it. Due to the snow storm that took place the same weekend, numerous players were forced to drop out of the event on the final day, primarily players who resided or booked a hotel in New Jersey. The dropouts included nearly every Steve player who made it into the final day (including top 50 players Syrup and Toon), all of whom chose to room together. As a result, UltRank announced that these players will have their performances at this event adjusted for the rankings. #101 seed Antimony was the only Steve player present in the Top 32, finishing at 25th place.
The most notable upsets on the first day of singles took place on #92 seed Dark Wizzy, who chose to sandbag the event with random characters due to his birthday and ended up going 0-2. There were also several other upsets with an upset factor of 5, including #239 seed Salvo defeating #47 seed Mr. E 3-2, #224 seed Triscuit defeating #33 seed Chag 3-0, #213 seed Mr_Thugs defeating #44 seed Tilde 3-1, and #218 seed Arctice defeating #39 seed Free KayFlock 3-2.
Day 2 would kick off with game 5 upsets against two of the tournament’s top 4 seeds in Winners Top 64. #4 seed Zomba would take an upset factor 6 loss to Candle and would immediately be defeated by Tilde in another game 5 to place 33rd, his lowest major placement since Port Priority 8 more than 2 years prior. #2 seed Sparg0 would take an upset factor 8 loss to elijmin, the largest upset of the tournament, but he would go on to have a much longer life in losers bracket. Other than his sets against smub and ApolloKage which both went to game 5 last stock, his set wins in losers were very dominant with a 3-1 victory over Tweek and 3-0 victories over Skinny the Pooh, Wrath, Lui$, and MuteAce before losing to Peabnut for 4th place.
Peabnut continued his strong momentum from 2025 by placing 2nd with wins on MkLeo 3-0, Sparg0 3-1, and Sonix 3-1, as well as no games lost before Top 8. After Hurt placed 2nd at Luminosity Makes BIG Moves 2025, he won his first major of the year and won his first Let's Make Moves tournament at this event, with wins on Tweek 3-0, Sonix 3-0, and Peabnut twice (both sets 3-1).
