Hokkaidō is a Smash region, a prefecture, and the second largest island in Japan. The prefecture's capital is Sapporo. As it is both the northernmost prefecture and separated by the Tsugaru Strait the region is relatively isolated from the rest of the country.

Sapporo hosts many of the regions top players and the majority of the tournaments including the long-running Hokkaido Smash Tournament (HST) series. Many of the top players in region also play online.

The region greatest success has been in Super Smash Bros. 64. Amasawa was one of the best Japanese players in the early metagame despite using a Donkey Kong, a low tier character. Jouske also achieved considerable success having won several Japanese nationals and was considered one of Japan's strongest players before retirement.
