Special Stage is an official term referring to the various "special" stages appearing in the Super Smash Bros. series, referring to the nature of the stages simplicity and availability compared to other stages.. Most of the special stages "fly" through space, or have a cosmic background. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Battlefield and Final Destination are dubbed under the category "Special Stages" and are the only stages from the game in that category. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl the Battlefield and Final Destination stages return, presumably under the same category as before.
