Special Stages is an official term referring to the various "special" stages appearing in the Super Smash Bros. series. Most of the special stages "fly" through space, or have a cosmic background. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Battlefield and Final Destination are dubbed under the category "Special Stages" and are the only stages in the game in that category. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl the Battlefield and Final Destination stages return, presumably under the same category as before.
