Mewtwo is a playable character in the Brawl mod Project M. It is one of the two characters that was not originally playable in Brawl, the other being Roy.

Attributes

Changes from Melee to PM

Mewtwo was buffed from Melee to Project M.

  • Buff General play changes, including decreased aerial lag, stronger attacks, faster dash speed, and an increase in weight.
  • Buff When not holding the attack button, second hit of jab only delivers one hit, leaving Mewtwo less vulnerable.
  • Buff Mewtwo's tail is now significantly longer, greatly increasing the range of any attacks that utilize its tail, such as its up tilt, down tilt, and forward tilt.
  • Buff Mewtwo can now hover in a similar manner to Peach's float. While Mewtwo can float in any direction, its float duration is shorter (for about a bit more than one second) and can only be done after a single jump; using it will cause Mewtwo to lose its midair jump. Hovered aerials have decreased landing lag, though.
  • Buff Hits of up smash link better each into other.
  • Buff Shadow Ball is stronger, and uncharged ones deal stronger knockback than before. It also travels considerably faster.
  • Buff Confusion's effect is larger and sends victims upwards into a tumbling state after spinning them. Projectiles reflected by Confusion now inflict damage to the original user, further improving Confusion's utility.
  • Buff Teleport no longer puts Mewtwo into a helpless state, and acting out of it is possible with anything but an air dodge.
  • Buff Disable now affects enemies from behind and can no longer be reflected. It also has increased power on midair foes, dealing 10% damage (9% more).
  • Buff Forward throw changed to condensing opponent in a Shadow Ball, then throwing them ahead. It has the same angle as the original throw, but is much more effective at racking-up damage and following-up. Deals 13% damage total.
  • Nerf Longer tail leaves Mewtwo slightly more vulnerable from behind.
  • Nerf Is now vulnerable to the grab release glitch.
  • Nerf Soul breaker glitch has been removed.
  • Nerf Disable cannot deal knockback to already-dazed characters, and it doesn't increase their stun time either.
  • Change Forward tilt's sweetspot is now located at the tip of the tail, while the rest of the attack is weaker. It no longer has a slash effect.
  • Change Sourspot of forward smash posseses a neutral effect, making it more noticeable.
  • Change Sidestep now involves Mewtwo vanishing, akin to its air dodge.

In terms of cosmetic changes, Mewtwo now has a black costume in addition to two Armoured Mewtwo costumes. For its on-screen appearance, Mewtwo teleports onto the stage and stretches a hand, emitting its Pokémon cry. As its up taunt, it floats in a sitting pose with closed eyes, similar to how he appeared at Dr. Fuji's lab in Mewtwo Strikes Back. Mewtwo keeps floating as long as the taunt input is held. Its side taunt is similar to the on-screen appearance, while down taunt is that from Melee.

Armored Mewtwo

Artistic rendering of Mewtwo's alternate costume in Project M, resembling an armored Mewtwo from Pokémon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Armoured Mewtwo appears as Mewtwo's alternate costume. It is based upon the armour donned by Mewtwo in Mewtwo Strikes Back.

  • There are two versions of this alternate costume: one silver as it was in the movie and one gold.
  • On the back of the armor is inscribed "Pokemon-150", which is its National Pokedex number in the games.

Trivia

  • At the time of Mewtwo's creation as a character in the mod, it was not possible to convert animations from Melee and import them into Brawl. As a result of having to do them all from scratch, Mewtwo's animations alone took approximately 700 hours to create. Project M Back Room member SiLeNtDo0m credits Haloedhero with the animation work in this forum post.
  • When Kirby copies Mewtwo, he copies Disable rather than Shadow Ball.
  • Shadow Storm still posseses an aura effect during the rise.
