InfinityCON Tally 2021 was a convention held in Tallahassee, Florida, from June 5th-6th, 2021. Initially meant as a small Super Smash Bros. Ultimate regional,[1] the tournament quickly received national attention, leading many players from around the country to register for it. Ultimately, 512 players registered for the singles event and 422 players attended, making InfinityCON the first American superregional since CEO Dreamland 2020, as well as the largest Smash event in terms of entrants count since the aforementioned event. Due to its size and the event taking place following a loosening in COVID-19 restrictions for vaccinated adults in the United States, InfinityCON is considered to be the beginning of Ultimate's post-pandemic metagame, and offline competitive play would gradually return to the norm within the next few months.
There were a few issues that plagued the event, however. Prior to the event, concerns arose when players noted how COVID-19 vaccination was not mandatory for the tournament; the tournament runner, Cagt, eventually revealed that he had no control over the ruling due to convention rules and Florida law.[2] In addition, technical difficulties left the first day of competition without an official stream.[3] As such, most footage from that day was caught from in-person livestreams by attendees such as Hungrybox and Aaron.
