A thorn helix in The Swamp.
In Subspace Emissary, certain levels with water include a hazard called a Thorn helix that bursts out of the water. These appear as thorned spirals of vine, and will often destroy some of the terrain and slash a player if they are touched. However, they are not enemies, and cannot be destroyed. Because of this, it is unknown whether they serve the Subspace Army or are just a natural part of the area.
This hazard only appears in The Swamp and The Great Maze.
