Article on WiKirby Kirby's Dream Land

Kirby's Dream Land (星のカービィ, Kirby of the Stars) is a 1992 platforming game developed by HAL Laboratory for the Nintendo Game Boy. It is the first game in the Kirby series, and thus the debut game of Kirby. It is featured as a Masterpiece in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

In the Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Kirby using his signature Inhale, both of which made their debut in Kirby's Dream Land.

Fighters[edit]

Kirby and King Dedede both debuted in this game.

Moves[edit]

Kirby's Inhale and Star Spit attack come from this game. King Dedede's dash attack, forward smash, Inhale, and Super Dedede Jump come from this game.

Stages[edit]

Dream Land in SSB and Green Greens are both based off of the first level in the game, Green Greens. Dream Land GB in SSB4 and Ultimate is based off of various levels in the game.

Items[edit]

Warp Stars are used to get to new areas in the game. The Apples from the Green Greens stage in Melee are also used to defeat Whispy Woods, the first boss of the game. The Superspicy Curry appears as an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. Also, the Maxim Tomato appears as an item in all games, though never healing all damage as it does in the Kirby series.

Enemies[edit]

Waddle Dee, Parasol Waddle Dee, Waddle Doo, Gordo, Bronto Burt and Shotzo all appear as enemies in Smash Run in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Whispy Woods appear on the stages Dream Land in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/ Wii U, and Green Greens in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Music[edit]

Songs from Kirby's Dream Land include Green Greens from Melee and Green Greens Ver. 2 from Smash 4, two different orchestral renditions of the music for the game's opening stage of the same name; King Dedede's Theme from Brawl and King Dedede's Theme Ver. 2 from Smash 4, two arrangements of the music that plays at Mt. Dedede and when battling King Dedede; Green Greens, Castle Lololo, Float Islands, Bubbly Clouds, and Mt. Dedede, the original Game Boy versions of all the game's stage themes, which in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were compiled into the Kirby Retro Medley; and Staff Credits - Kirby's Dream Land from Smash Ultimate, an arrangement of the game's credits theme along with that of Kirby Super Star.

Trophies[edit]

In Melee[edit]

Name Image First Game Description
Kirby Kirby Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
A denizen of the far-off, peaceful planet Pop Star, Kirby became a citizen of Dream Land after defeating King Dedede. Even though he's only about eight inches tall, Kirby is an extremely skilled technician. He has the unique ability to absorb the powers of his enemies, and his elastic body makes him a versatile adventurer.
Maxim Tomato Maxim Tomato Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
Maxim Tomatoes cure 50 percentage points of your accumulated damage. Once you eat one, after a brief moment, your damage meter slowly drains the appropriate amount, regardless of whether or not you pick up another item right afterwards. In the Kirby series, these juicy, health-restoring items were a favorite of the pink hero.
Warp Star Warp Star Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
The Warp Star originated as Kirby's ride: it helped the ponderous puffball get around at high speed. Hop on the Warp Star in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and your character will rapidly launch up and off the screen. You'll return in a flash, causing an explosion as you hit the ground. Try holding a direction to alter your landing!
Parasol Parasol Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
The Parasol, which was originally used by Kirby, can be used as a weapon to bludgeon enemies. Even better is the fact that players can open it while airborne and float lazily back toward safe ground. It's incredibly useful in returning to the field of play after an opponent gets the better of you and sends you flying.
Whispy Woods Whispy Woods Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
A boss enemy from Kirby's Dream Land, Whispy Woods is a big tree that shoots whirlwinds at Kirby. It isn't the toughest enemy: all Kirby has to do is avoid the occasional whirlwind, suck in apples that fall down, and then shoot them back at the tree. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Whispy Woods is quite the blowhard.
Waddle Dee Waddle Dee Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
Many delicate creatures like this one inhabit Dream Land. They generally live carefree lives and have never considered themselves to be followers of King Dedede. Waddle Dees are innocent and generally harmless to man and beast. While they have virtually no offensive or defensive power, they'll sometimes try to wield a parasol.
King Dedede King Dedede Trophy Melee.png Kirby's Dream Land
8/92
Dedede's the self-proclaimed king of Dream Land. While he says he's king, Dedede performs no administrative functions and the citizens of Dream Land continue to live as they always have. He's able to suck in air and fly like Kirby does, but only as a result of the vigorous training he undertook after being bested by Kirby.

In Brawl[edit]

Kirby Fighter Kirby - Brawl Trophy.png

A round, pink ball of cuteness from a distant, peaceful star. He can inhale anything with his gigantic mouth, then spit it out as ammo. He has the handy ability to copy powers and use them as his own. His hovering ability lets him fly through the air with ease. He's so round, he's sometimes treated like a ball.

The self-styled king of the amazingly peaceful Dream Land. He continually does things unbecoming a king, like stealing the kingdom's food supplies or all the stars from the sky. He's not all bad, though, and sometimes performs good deeds. While he and Kirby often battle, they've been known to compete good-naturedly at speed-eating contests and minigames.

Maxim Tomato Item Maxim Tomato - Brawl Trophy.png

A juicy tomato that heals 50 percentage points of the damage you've accumulated. When one of these appears in combat, rest assured there will be a race to see who can reach it first. It's a race of desperation between players who want to heal their damage and those who want to stop them from doing so. In the Kirby series, Maxim Tomatoes healed all damage.

A carefree creature that wanders the hills and dales of Dream Land. Basically harmless to creatures great and small, Waddle Dees sometimes use parasols to float down through the skies. Miscellaneous[edit]

Kirby and King Dedede's gray alternate costumes are based on how they appeared in this game. Kirby's up taunt is the Kirby Dance, which first appeared in this game. His victory poses are also variations of the Kirby Dance. Additionally, Kirby and King Dedede's victory themes are a cover of the "Level Completed" music. Meta Knight has the same victory theme, but it is played in heavy-metal and in electric guitars.
