Fox is a playable character in the Brawl mod Project M. Fox is the main protagonist in the Star Fox games. He was remade to be nearly identical to his Melee counterpart in terms of attack hitboxes and animations.

Attributes

Fox is the famously potent fighter from Melee. With incredible mobility, deadly combos, and good options on both defense and offense, a Fox is a force to be reckoned with. His moveset features the infamous shine, which aside from reflecting projectiles, is a key factor in Fox's combos and can be used to gimp opponents. The angle at which it sends opponents and its ability to be canceled with a jump or wavedash (known as a waveshine when done out of a shine) combine to allow it to lead into most of Fox's other moves. Fox's speed and his blaster come together to give him the ability to camp against opponents who do not approach Fox. For those who do approach Fox, they must deal with his up smash which is quick and deadly, especially out of shield. Fox's combo game is also notorious. Most of Fox's moves are oriented toward comboing opponents, with his aerials and tilts largely being lag free and great for repeatedly hitting opponents. Fox's up throw can set up for many moves, like one (or more) up airs, or a back air.

However, Fox's efficiency at tearing through opponents does not come without considerable weaknesses. Fox has a high falling speed (one of the highest in the game) and a low air speed, making him very susceptible to combos and chain grabs. He also has a rather short and linear recovery. The predictable behavior of both Fire Fox and Fox Illusion make Fox easy to edge guard or gimp, and Fox often has trouble making it back to stage despite only being launched to a distance where many characters could easily recover.

Changes from Melee to PM

Artistic rendering of Fox's alternate costume in Project M, resembling his appearance in Melee.
Fox's alternate costume.
  • Buff Reflector can be canceled even after reflecting a projectile, which prevents a shine lock from characters with fast projectiles such as Fox or Falco. This also allows reflected projectiles to be followed up on via a waveshine or other move out of a jump.
  • Buff Can now tech out of Falco's down throw.
  • Nerf Blaster shots decay in damage based on distance.
  • Nerf Can no longer perform the waveshine infinite.
  • Nerf Reflector no longer has intangibility on the first frame of activation.
  • Change Fox has a new idle pose based off of his "standing" victory pose from Smash 64 and Melee.

Classic Fox

Fox now has an alternate costume based off his appearance in Melee, Star Fox 64, and other earlier Star Fox games. There are four variations of this costume: the original and the three team colors used in Melee.
