Entei (Japanese: エンテイ) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, it is a Poké Ball Pokémon, a trophy, and even a stage.

Creature Description

Entei is a large brawny canine-or-lion-like species with brown fur, wing-like sculptures on its back, and a white "cape" of billowing smoky hair, and is one of a trio of legendary canine species that race across the land. A legendary Pokémon, the Pokédex says it is in possession of extreme power, which it is unable to fully restrain, so it races headlong around the land, spouting flames hotter than a volcano's magma. It sends up massive bursts of fire that utterly consume all that they touch. The legends associated with it claim that the species embodies the passion of magma, one is born each time a new volcano creates itself, and a volcano somewhere in the world erupts whenever it lets loose a roaring bark.

Like the other legendary beasts, Entei made its debut in the Pokemon Anime but was first seen in Pokemon Gold and Silver which was released in 2000. Entei is a legendary volcanic Fire-type Pokémon that perished when the Burned Tower caught on fire. Ho-oh then revived Entei along with the other legendary beasts. Entei, along with Suicune and Raikou, can be found in the Burned Tower's basement. Once the player awakens the legendary beast, the player can find Entei in the areas where wild Pokémon are found. Entei also makes an appearance in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen. Once the player completes a certain event on the Sevii Islands, then Entei will be roaming the wild if the player has chosen Bulbasaur as their starter. Entei can be transfered to Pokémon Diamond & Pearl through the use of the Pal Park.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Entei is rather prominent among its two peers, Raikou and Suicune, in the Smash Bros. series.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Entei is treated as a "legendary" Poké Ball Pokémon; its chance of appearing is much rarer than most of the others, and in return its effect is more powerful. Entei uses Fire Spin as its attack. A column of fire will surround Entei's body when it executes this attack. Any character caught in the column of fire, excluding the summoner, will take damage, usually more than 70%. The character is also forced towards the top of the screen when he/she gets caught in the column of fire.

As a stage element

Main article: Entei (stage)

The Pokémon Stadium 2 model for Entei, massively enlarged, serves as a unique stage played only during the Event match Trophy Tussle 2. Therefore, it is not available for multiplayer play without hacking. The reward for completing the match will be the Entei trophy.

As a trophy

Entei features as a collectible trophy, unlocked when you beat the Event match Trophy Tussle 2 for the first time:

Entei:
A volcanic Fire-type, Entei is hotter than liquid magma and as tough as nails. This powerful creature was one of the three Pokemon running around the Burned Tower of Ecruteak City. Entei is extremely difficult to seek out and capture, as it tends to wander all over the landscape, sprouting intense flames from its body. (Pokemon Gold & Silver 10/00)

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Entei in Brawl

Entei reprises its role from Super Smash Bros. Melee in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The attack used is Fire Spin, as stated on the official Website. Entei's entrance is much more intense than what it was in Melee as it roars and stands on its hind legs before executing its attack.

Trophy Description

A Volcano Pokémon. When Entei barks, a volcano erupts, and it's said that a new Entei is born every time a volcano appears. A proverb claims that the warmth of summer is created by Entei racing through the clouds. Entei uses Fire Spin, a flaming vortex that traps and damages foes for multiple turns.
