User:Mario Maniac/Fake Smash Characters

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Everyone has their characters that they want in Smash. I’m no exception, there are some characters that I think have potential to be in Smash. Unlike this page’s inspiration page, there are some first-party characters, but they all come from first-party universes which already have a fighter.

With a couple execptions, each of these newcomers represents a new universe that either has no representation in Smash or has very little of it. This project was inspired by my dude Aidan. They've really inspired me to make this page, and two of my other sub-pages. To learn more about the universes these newcomers originate from, see here. To see the stages that these newcomers call home, see here. For characters whose movesets have been revamped by me, see here. All numbers are listed as base damage without the 1v1 multiplier, and all of these movesets use Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the base, due to it being the most recent Smash game as of now.

Toad[edit]

Toad Drifts Into the Battle!
—Introduction tagline

Toad (キノピオ, Kinopio) is a Super Mario character that deserves to be playable. Sure, we already have a bunch of fighters from that series, but another one never hurt anyone.

Moveset inspiration: Toad (Ultimate Toad), Toadette (Ultimate Toad), Mario (SSBU) (miscellaneous moves)

Home stage: Toad Town

Reasons for inclusion/exclusion[edit]

  • Buff He's a highly requested character.
  • Buff Who can say no to that face?
  • Nerf He's currently a moveset element.

Character description[edit]

Main article: Toad

Toad, like Yoshi, is one out of many of his species. Toads are the inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad himself would make his actual debut in Super Mario Bros. 2. He appears in a lot of Mario spin-offs, like Mario Kart and Mario Party.

Attributes[edit]

As a homage to SMB2, Toad is a lightweight, weighing as much as Kirby. He is very fast, and he can't jump very high. Overall, his attributes mirror those seen in SMB2.

Moveset[edit]

Toad can wall jump, wall cling, and crawl.

Name Damage Description
Neutral attack Punch
Combination Punch
Kick
Spore Storm
2% Throws a jab, then a cross, and then either kicks in front of himself or unleashes a stream of spores. Based on the Punch + Punch + Kick combo in Super Mario 64, and his usage as a counterattack.
2%
4%
0.5% (loop), 2% (last)

Up tilt Toad Uppercut 5% An uppercut.
Down tilt Toad Legsweep 4% (foot), 8% (leg) A legsweep.
Dash attack Dashing Headbutt 12% (clean), 8% (late) Headbutts while running.
Forward smash Frying Pan 12% Swings his Frying Pan outwards.
Up smash Frying Pan (Up) 15% (frying pan), 12% (arm) Swings his Frying Pan in an arc above himself.
Down smash Frying Pan (Down) 5% (hit 1), 15% (hit 2) Thrusts his Frying Pan in front of himself, then behind himself.
Neutral aerial Toad Kick 8% (clean), 5% (late) A flying kick. Functions as a sex kick.
Forward aerial Toad Knuckle 10% (early), 14% (clean), 12% (late) An overhand. The clean hit meteor smashes.
Back aerial Toad Dropkick 10.5% (clean), 7% (late) A dropkick.
Up aerial 6.5% A bicycle kick.
Down aerial Ground Pound 15% (clean), 12% (late) Pauses in midair, before flipping once and butt-stomping. Functions as a stall-then-fall. Both the clean and late hit meteor smash, but the clean hit's meteor smash is more powerful than the late hit's.
Grab Grab Reaches out with his free hand.
Pummel 1% Headbutts the grabbed opponent.
Forward throw Standalone Toad Rocket 2% (hit 1), 7% (throw) Headbutts the opponent forward. Similar to his role in Peach's forward throw in Ultimate.
Back throw Suplex 8% Performs a suplex, similar to the special move of the same name and Kirby's back throw.
Up throw Pick Up 7% (forward/back), 8% (up), 5% (down) Picks up the opponent and holds them above his head upside down. Based on how the player character carries objects above their head in Super Mario Bros. 2. Puts the opponent into another grab state, and provides Toad with four “cargo throws”.

Forward: Heaves the opponent forward. Based on the throw animation when throwing an object in SMB2.

Back: Heaves the opponent backward. Based on the throw animation when throwing an object in SMB2.

Up: Heaves the opponent upwards.

Down: Heaves the opponent downwards.

Down throw Toad Bomb 5% A powerbomb. Buries the opponent.
Floor attack (front) 5% Swings his frying pan back and front.
Floor attack (back) 5% Swings his frying pan front and back.
Floor attack (trip) 6% Swings his frying pan back and front.
Edge attack 9% Climbs up and thrusts his frying pan forward.
Neutral special Iceball 5% (early), 4% (late) Throws an Iceball that bounces along the ground several times before disappearing. Freezes opponents.
Side special Kart 0.6%-11.2% (ram, dependent on speed) Rides around in his Kart, ramming into any opponent he hits. Toad can turn by tilting the control stick the opposite direction he’s facing, and speed up by tilting the stick the direction he's facing. Pressing any attack button (or being attacked) while performing this move will end the move prematurely and he can throw the kart as an item. This move grants Toad excellent horizontal recovery.
Up special Crouching High Jump 0% Crouches before jumping very high. The jump angle can be adjusted by tilting the control stick while charging. Although this move does no damage, it is Toad's main recovery move, as it grants him excellent vertical recovery. Puts Toad in a helpless state after the ascent.
Down special Vegetable Varies Pulls a turnip out of the ground. This move is slightly different than Peach and Daisy's version of the move, but it still pulls the same items.
Final Smash Rainbow Road Runover 10% (hit 1), 20% (hit 2), 10% (throw) Toad uses a Dash Mushroom and charges forward in his Kart. If he hits an opponent, they are sent to Rainbow Road where he runs them over, sending them flying. If he does not hit an opponent, the move fails. If he misses, he might self-destruct, but pressing the special button again makes him stop. Functions similarly to a fusion of Blue Falcon and Marth and Lucina's version of Critical Hit, taking the "getting ran over by a vehicle" concept from the former and the dash forward from the latter.

On-screen appearance[edit]

Drives onto the stage in his Kart, then jumps out of it, saying “Here we go!” as he jumps out. It then disappears.

Taunts[edit]

  • Up taunt: Jumps once while saying "Woohoo!"
  • Side taunt: Points his Frying Pan diagonally.
  • Down taunt: Flips a pancake with his Frying Pan.

Idle poses[edit]

  • Looks around.
  • Assumes a pose similar to his animation when guarding Peach in Ultimate.

Crowd cheer[edit]

Toad! Toad!

Victory poses[edit]

  • Left: Plucks a turnip out of the ground, which, much to his surprise, rockets upward before falling onto the ground. Similar to one of Lucas's victory poses.
  • Up: Poses with Peach, who says, "Toad, you did great!"
    • If Mario or Dr. Mario were present in the match, Peach will instead say, "Mario, you did great too!"
  • Right: Drives off-screen, then on-screen in his Kart, saying "I'm the best!"

Victory theme[edit]

Toad has a unique victory theme, similarly to fellow Mario fighters Bowser, Bowser Jr., Piranha Plant, and Rosalina & Luma, the former three of which share a victory theme, and the latter of which has her own victory theme, that is an arrangement of Plucky Pass Beginnings. He shares it with Toadette, his Echo Fighter.

Alternate costumes[edit]

Half of Toad's costumes are based on his regular design, while the other half are based on Captain Toad.

Kirby Hat[edit]

Kirby gets Toad's mushroom cap.

Trivia[edit]

  • Toad has many references to Super Mario Bros. 2 outside of his moveset:
    • Toad carries items above his head, akin to how he carries enemies in this game.
    • His crouching animation and the animation for the charge-up portion of his up special are identical to his crouching animation in this game.
    • His fast walking speed, running speed, initial dash, air speed, falling speed, and low jump height come from this game.
    • All four of his “cargo throws” having a hitbox where the thrown fighter can damage other fighters after being thrown is a reference to this game.
  • Peach appears in Toad's up-inputted victory pose, making her the third fighter to appear in another fighter's victory pose, following Chrom in SSB4 and Ultimate and Mario in Ultimate.

Toadette[edit]

Toadette Doubles the Fun!
—Introduction tagline

Toadette (キノピコ, Kinopiko) would probably be Toad's Echo Fighter, or at least a semi-clone. I imagine her as a full clone of Toad if she were to get into Smash.

Moveset inspiration: Toad (Ultimate Toad), Toadette (Ultimate Toad), Mario (SSBU) (miscellaneous moves)

Home stage: Toad Town

Reasons for inclusion/exclusion[edit]

  • Buff She's playable in various Mario spin-offs, and a couple mainline games too.
  • Nerf I don't think she's getting playable status if Toad stays a moveset element.

Character description[edit]

Toadette is a female Toad who appears in many games of the Mario series. She is known for her pigtails, cheerful personality, and occasional bursts of creativity. She first appeared in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. She is a lightweight driver in that game, and her special item is the Golden Dash Mushroom, shared with Toad. She appears in many Mario spin-offs, and she even appears as a playable character in a few mainline games, such as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. She is actually the most commonly recurring female Toad in the series.

Attributes[edit]

As a full clone of Toad, Toadette shares her attributes with him; she's a lightweight, she's very fast, and her jump height is not very high.

Series symbol origins[edit]

Palutena's Guidance conversations[edit]

The Palutena's Guidance Smash Taunt is a very cool concept, so I think my fake fighters need some Palutena's Guidance conversations as well.

Boxing Ring titles[edit]

Like any other fighter, each of my fake fighters would have a title displayed on the Jumbotron in the background of the Boxing Ring stage.

Classic Mode routes[edit]

Like any other fighter (barring the Mii Fighters, of course), each of my fake fighters would have their own personalized Classic Mode routes, usually reflecting their home series or a character trait or two.
