A rise-then-fall is a type of attack in all five installments of the Super Smash Bros. series. All rise-then-falls are special moves, usually an up special move.

Properties[edit]

The maneuver is as simple as the name. The character rises a set distance, then plummets downward, usually at a faster speed than their normal falling speed, even while fast falling.

Unconventional rise-then-falls[edit]

These moves technically meet all criteria of being a rise-then-fall, but there are some key differences:

  • The move's rising portion is too small.
  • The aerial version of the move skips the rising portion.
  • The move is already classified as a stall-then-fall, but has a rising portion.

Trivia[edit]

  • Since it is the only neutral special to serve as a rise-then-fall, Kirby can use Sonic's Homing Attack as a rise-then-fall via Copy Ability.
