A rise-then-fall is a type of attack in all five installments of the Super Smash Bros. series. Most rise-then-falls are special moves, usually an up special move; however, some throws can also be classified as rise-then-falls.

Properties[edit]

The maneuver is as simple as the name. The character rises a set distance, then plummets downward, usually at a faster speed than their normal falling speed, even while fast falling. The falling hit may or may not meteor smash; and some don't have a rising hit. Usually, if one of these attacks lands on a soft, semisoft, or supersoft platform during the descending portion, it'll end earlier than it would have normally. This is beneficial for characters such as Kirby and Meta Knight, whose up throws carry them and their opponent to the upper blast line and then drop down, because it allows them to KO earlier.
