DreamHack (DH) is a LAN party, a local area network gathering with demo competitions, gaming competitions and more, that also hosts large tournaments at each of their LANs. DreamHack originated in Sweden, where tournaments were organized twice annually at the Elmia Exhibition Centre in Jönköping, Sweden and also twice a year at Expolaris Congresscenter in Skellefteå, Sweden; the series has since branched out to many other countries, including the United States and Canada.
Though there were previous attempts at adding Smash to DreamHack, such as Brawl for DreamHack Valentia in 2013,[1] Smash events were first added to DreamHack's lineup in 2015, with Melee at DreamHack London 2015. Since then, Smash games have been a regular part of the series' lineup, and often features hundreds of entrants at each tournament, with notable Smash events being held in Canada, Texas, and Georgia almost yearly. DreamHack Winter has also featured Smash in its lineup since 2015, albeit with only one Smash game per iteration.
In 2007 the founders of DreamHack received a diploma of honor from the municipality of Jönköping for their importance to business, education and society of the local community. In addition, DreamHack holds the world record (as recognized by the Guinness Book of Records and Twin Galaxies) for the world's largest LAN party and computer festival.
