The Great Maze is the final level of Super Smash Bros. Brawl Subspace Emissary. After the whole Super Smash Bros. World is sent to Subspace, Tabuu combines all the levels of the game and mixes them all together to create one large maze which has parts from all the levels all the characters have been in. The heroes of the game are forced to go through this large maze. However, to beat this level, the player must not go to a goal. To beat it, the player must fight Evil Clone versions of all the characters in the game (excluding Toon Link, Wolf, Sonic and Jigglypuff). Aside from that, the player must also defeat all the bosses encountered in the game.
The Great Maze is an area located in Subspace, more specifically formed by Tabuu. It is made up of levels in the Subspace Emissary that have been engulfed by Subspace Bombs, such as The Forest. It is also where the player must defeat "dark versions" of all characters and bosses in order to enter the area where Tabuu is. This process of redoing past events in order to progress further is a process commonly used in video games, though Brawl has considerably lightened the burden on the player by providing a map (appears after pressing the pause button) of the maze (as the player discovers more of it), and the location of enemies yet to be fought (indicated by blinking faces). The maze also provides multiple safe rooms, where the player is able to save their data, choose 4 (6 if one is playing it after beating the game) characters to use in the maze, equip stickers, return to the world map, and provides portals to other areas in the maze to cut down on travel time. The maze is also slightly linear, allowing the player to access certain parts only after they have beaten a certain boss or enemy, though the player can go back if they desire.

The Great Maze has 4 entry points from the stage selection, one for each of the Rest Areas, since one can teleport between them, anyways. There are also 4 Rest Areas that cannot be teleported to or from.
There is no specific order the player must beat all the enemies – the player can also choose to play as any character he or she wants. Also, there are various Check Points throughout the maze. The checkpoints are indicated by the the Smash Bros. emblem mounted on a trophy stand. After the player has defeated all the "dark" characters and all the bosses again, the player will then open a large red door which leads the player to Tabuu and the Final Battle begins. After the player beats Tabuu, the Great Maze is spread apart and all the levels and locations of the Smash World are returned to their normal state. A map of the Great Maze can be accessed any time by pressing the Start button.

Interestingly, the Halberd, and multiple other stages, are part of the Great Maze, despite not only never being pulled into Subspace, and the Halberd also being completely destroyed earlier.
