Samus Aran (サムス・アラン, Samusu Aran) is a starter character in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Samus is a heavy, yet floaty, character with a quick dash and decent recovery. She has fairly high priority but she also has sluggish moves with a lot of ending lag, and lacks a quick and easy-to-land kill move.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Fast dash
  • Has 2 projectiles
  • Good horizontal recovery via Bomb Jumping
  • Ranged grab
  • Has an extremely fast spike
  • Decent range
  • Heavy, thus hard to KO.
  • Forward Tilt is fast and a great move for throwing an enemy off before they attack

Cons

  • Large target
  • Slow grab and laggy if it misses
  • Very bad roll
  • Up-B is a poor recovery move in general
  • Arguably the worst in the game at consistently comboing opponents
  • Very sluggish - moves have a lot of ending lag
  • No quick, easy to land kill moves
  • Abysmal vertical recovery
  • Charge Shot takes a very long time to charge
  • Up tilt does not launch opponents into the air. This is one of the only up tilts not to do so.

Bomb Recovery

In Melee, Samus can bomb jump to greatly extend her horizontal recovery. In SSB, Samus cannot bomb jump. However, using bombs and immediately DIing towards the stage aids in her horizontal recovery to a degree, although not nearly as much as bomb jump recovery does. Just remember that once you use a bomb, the double jump cannot be used until Samus lands.

Glitch

When Samus performs an Up-B special move is in training mode with 4 greenshells near the CPU, also make sure she is directly under the CPU, and it will cause them to raise to 999% damage, it's very similar to the Mario Up-B special glitch the reasons for it are unknown are possibly just a fluke in the game, however fans seem to enjoy as it doesn't ruin the game.
