Porygon2 (ポリゴン2, Porigon Tsū) is a Pokémon and a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Porygon2 is a somewhat small virtual Pokémon in corporeal form with a red-and-blue duck-toy appearance, and a far smoother appearance over its polygonal earlier form, Porygon. The Pokédex in the games describes it as an upgraded version of Porygon designed by humans through the power of science and the then-latest technology. It was designed for space exploration with planetary development software installed. However, it can't fly, so it failed to measure up. It was endowed with artificial intelligence that enables it to learn new gestures and emotions on its own, which is why it may sometimes exhibit motions that were not programmed.

Porygon2, as its name indicates, is the evolved form of Porygon. As a Second Generation Pokémon, Porygon2 was introduced as Porygon's new evolutionary form when it is traded between trainers while it is holding the item called Up-Grade. In the Fourth Generation, Porygon2 can evolve further into Porygon-Z by being traded again, this time with Dubious Disc attached.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Porygon2 uses Tackle as its attack, much as the original Porygon did in SSB's Saffron City. Once released, Porygon2 will instantly dash a short distance horizontally then disappear. Any character that makes contact with Porygon2 when it's moving will take significant damage and a huge amount of horizontal knockback; surprisingly, targets are sent in the opposite direction Porygon2 launched itself. The chances a character has of recovering from this attack is very slim. Porygon2's attack does not harm the summoner.

As a trophy

Porygon2 features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Representing the next step in technological progress, this Virtual Pokémon is a higher-powered version of the man-made Pokémon, Porygon. Compared to the sharp edges of its relative, Porygon2's body is extremely smooth and rounded. In battle, it utilizes a special move called Conversion 2 to alter its type.
