Marill (マリル, Mariru, Maril in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Marill is a small blue spherical bipedal mouse with an orb-like tail. According to the Pokédex, its fur is naturally water-repellent, which lets it stay dry even when it plays in water and allows it to swim through water at high speed without being slowed by the water's resistance. The orb on its tail contains an oil which is lighter than water, which serves as a buoy and life preserver that remains afloat on water and lets it swim without drowning even in a vicious current. It feeds on aquatic plants that grow on the bottoms of rivers, and it dives to the bottoms of rivers to reach and feed on these plants while its tail orb remains bobbing on the water's surface. Fishing is another way it acquires food, which it does safely by wrapping its tail on the trunk of a tree near a fast-running stream; the tail is flexible and configured to stretch as it tries to catch fish.

Marill was the popular "Pikablu" that was originally revealed as a "preview Pokémon" prior to the start of the Second Generation, along with Togepi.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

The attack Marill uses is Double Slap. Marill will run around the stage and slap anyone who is in it's way. Any character who makes contact with Marill will take damage and get pushed back. Marill will often fall off the edge of the stage while it's running. If Marill comes across a wall, it will turn around and continue to attack. If Marill is trapped in an enclosed space (Like between the houses in Onett), it will continue to run back and forth until it disappears. Marill can be KO'd by other characters (including the summoner). Nothing is rewarded for doing this though. Marill's attack does not harm the summoner.

As a trophy

Marill features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Marill
This Aqua Mouse Pokémon evolves into Azumarill. The round ball on the end of its tail acts like a flotation device, so it can float safely in the roughest of water conditions. It resides on Mt. Mortar in seclusion: few of the creatures are ever seen. Marill's cuteness has earned it a large and loyal fan base. (Pokemon Gold & Silver 10/10)

In Brawl

Marill, along with Scizor, Venusaur and Cyndaquil, was replaced in Brawl by a more recent Pokémon. In this case, Marill's role was filled by Piplup.
