The Hyrule Jump, sometimes referred to as Temple Crossing, refers to the act of crossing the open space from Temple's upper right ledge to its bottom-most platform. It can be performed in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Every character can perform the Hyrule Jump, though it is considerably more difficult for characters with short recoveries in Melee such as Falco and Roy. Since Temple is banned in the standard tournament ruleset, the Hyrule Jump is never seen in competitive gameplay. However, in single-player-mode matches, the Hyrule Jump may be useful in disorienting CPU opponents because they must travel a long distance to get to the player's new position.

Reverse Hyrule Jump

The Reverse Hyrule Jump is the act of performing the Hyrule Jump in reverse, or jumping from the bottom-most platform to the right-most ledge.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

In Melee, Jigglypuff, Luigi, Kirby, and Mewtwo are known to be able to do the Reverse Hyrule Jump. Link, and Peach and Young Link are technically able to perform the Reverse Hyrule Jump as well by using their down special move ,bombs, to damage themselves to the point where the bomb's knockback can carry them most of the way to the upper ledge.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Brawl, seventeen characters are known to be able to perform the Reverse Hyrule Jump. Link, Peach, and Toon Link are technically able to perform the Reverse Hyrule Jump as well by using their self-damaging bombs as Link, Peach and Young Link can in Melee. These three characters bring the known Brawl total to 20.

Peach, Pit, Wario, Jigglypuff, Kirby, Sonic, Meta Knight, Lucas, and Luigi can do the Reverse Hyrule Jump without using their up special moves.

  • Charizard: A midair jump, glide, another midair jump, and Fly. Currently only confirmed to work starting from the leftmost platform and gliding under the stage, making it a sort of half-circle jump (see below).
  • Fox: He must use his forward aerial in combination with his midair jumps to gain additional vertical height, followed by a properly angled Fire Fox.
  • Ice Climbers: A midair jump, followed by Squall Hammer. The player must mash the attack button very quickly in order to gain the most vertical distance.
  • Jigglypuff: A combination of its five midair jumps and Rising Pound. One of the easiest characters to perform the jump with.
  • Kirby: His five midair jumps, finishing with a reversed Final Cutter. He can also copy other characters' abilities to aid his Hyrule Jump (such as Sonic's Homing Attack).
  • Link: Link can pull a bomb to use his bomb recovery. He must use his midair jump and Spin Attack, and when the bomb explodes, he can use Spin Attack again to reach the ledge. Works only at high percents and above.
  • Lucario: There are currently three ways for Lucario to perform the jump, all involving wall jumping:
  • The first method is performed by wall jumping off the wall directly above the bottom most platform, followed by an ExtremeSpeed into the small wall below the rightmost edge, followed by a wall jump toward the ledge.
  • The second method is the same as the first, but without the first wall jump.
  • The third known method is to wall jump off the side of the bottom most platform, followed by an ExtremeSpeed towards the same mentioned above, followed by a wall jump towards the ledge.

Down Under Jump

The Down Under Jump is another jump that can be attempted on the Temple stage. It is performed by jumping off the left of the bottom-left landmass, underneath the spike protruding from it, coming back up, and grabbing the left edge of the bottom platform.

In Melee, ten characters can perform this jump: Pikachu, Pichu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Kirby, Ice Climbers (although the secondary climber dies), Samus and Luigi. Link and Young Link can also perform the jump using their bomb recovery.

In Brawl, thirty characters can perform this jump; Sonic, Charizard, Lucario, Meta Knight, Kirby, R.O.B., Pit, Toon Link, Jigglypuff, Ness, Lucas, Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Captain Falcon, Pikachu, Diddy Kong, Marth, Wolf, Zelda, Squirtle, Ice Climbers (like in Melee, the secondary climber dies), King Dedede, Luigi, Mario, Mr. Game and Watch, and Wario. Additionally, Snake, Link, and Peach can perform the Down Under Jump by damaging themselves with their bombs.

Reverse Down Under Jump

The Reverse Down Under Jump is performing this move in the other direction, moving right from the platform to under the spike and grabbing the left edge of the landmass while moving up. Nineteen Brawl characters can perform the Reverse Down Under Jump; Sonic, Lucario, Meta Knight, Kirby, R.O.B., Pit, Luigi, Lucas, Wario, Samus, Charizard, Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Toon Link. Additionally, Peach, Snake, King Dedede, and Link can perform the jump by damaging themselves with a C4 or Bomb, at high damage percentages.

Other jumps

A "full circle jump" is a jump that goes all the way around the temple. As of now, only Meta Knight, Wario as Wario-Man, Pit, and Snake (by using his bomb recovery) have been shown to be able to do this without landing. Charizard and Luigi, along with these characters, can do a "half circle jump", which is a combination of the Hyrule Jump and the down under jump, going from the far-right edge to the left edge of the "fight club". Sonic and Wario can go from the upper left of the stage to the platform where the Hyrule Jump ends. Jumping under other stages can also be done. The most notable is the Final Destination jump. Other stages can also be used for these kind of stunts, such as New Pork City, and Corneria.

Trivia

  • A tiny and light Samus can perform any stage jump, as her down special causes her to gain height and can be repeated indefinitely.
  • A tiny and light R.O.B. can also perform any stage jump, as his down aerial causes him to gain height and can be repeated indefinitely.
  • In Brawl, many characters with fast falling speeds (most notably Falco) can perform any stage jump by fastfalling, down throwing a Green Shell, catching, and repeating, in a technique known as Shell hopping.
  • If Peach wears a Bunny Hood, she can perform a reverse Hyrule Jump.
