Zapdos is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Zapdos is a large yellow bird with very angular plumage all around it, and is one of a trio of legendary avian species that are capable of powerful abilities based on elements. As proclaimed by the Pokédex, it has powers over electricity and free control over thunder, and as it flies it makes crackling and snapping sounds from its wings. It usually lives in thunderclouds, and it gains power if it is stricken by lightning bolts. By flapping its glittering wings, it lets loose lightning and can cause summer storms. It appears with gigantic thunderstorms and is said to appear only when a thundercloud parts into two halves.

Zapdos is the first (and, to date, the only) Flying- and Electric- combination type Pokémon. It is one of the three legendary bird Pokémon from the original Pokémon and its GBA remake. It can be caught at the Abandoned Power Plant.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

When Zapdos makes its rare appearance out of Poké Balls, it uses Thunder Bolt as its attack. A current of electricity will surround Zapdos. Any character caught in the current of the electricity (other than the summoner) won't be able to move and will take (if caught in it from the beginning,) 81% damage.

As a trophy

Zapdos features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Zapdos flaps its wings, and summer storms appear, throwing lightning every which way. It's said that you can hear this legendary Pokémon coming, as its wings make a very distinctive popping sound as it flies. In addition to electrical moves like the dreaded Thunder, it also wields a vicious move called Drill Peck.

Trivia

  • Along with Articuno, Zapdos is one of two of the original three Legendary Birds not to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
