Death's Scythe (死神の鎌, Grim Reaper's Sickle) is an item that is scheduled to appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. It was revealed in the August 8 Nintendo Direct.

Operation

When the wielder of Death's Scythe is winding up to attack a heavily damaged opponent, said opponent will be covered in darkness, and they will be instantly KO'd.

Origin

Soma Cruz using Death's Scythe in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

Death's Scythe is, as the name implies, the weapon that accompanies Death in the Castlevania series. It kills those who are hit by it, and can sometimes even be used by the playable characters; it is usually considered one of the most powerful weapons of the series.

In real life and other forms of media (including books, cartoons, and other video games), the personification of Death (or, as it is more commonly known, the Grim Reaper) is usually depicted with a scythe as its primary weapon in order to gather souls from those who have passed on.
