ICARUS 2023 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate super regional held in Bologna, Italy, from June 3rd-4th, 2023. At 390 entrants, this is currently the largest Smash singles event in Italy.
Tournament summary[edit]
The tournament saw multiple upsets during Top 64, with all players seeded in the Top 8 aside from Glutonny being knocked into the Loser's Bracket before Top 8. Notably, #9 seed M4E upset the #1 seed Bloom4Eva 3-2 prior to Top 8, and M4E ultimately placed 3rd, making him not only the highest-placing Italian player at the tournament by a wide margin (with the second-highest being Kurøbu, who placed 25th), but the first Italian player to place higher than 5th at an ICARUS tournament since ICARUS II, the last ICARUS tournament that didn't feature notable European invaders. In Grand Finals, Glutonny defeated Bloom4Eva 3-1, marking the first time Glutonny defeated Bloom4Eva since Ultimate Fighting Arena 2022, and the first time since Glutonny conceded Europe's #1 position to Bloom4Eva. Glutonny's victory also led the British commentator (Sma) to sign the French commentator's (HummingB) "Glutonny apology form".
