Takamaru (鷹丸, Takamaru) is the protagonist of The Mysterious Murasame Castle. He appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a sticker, and in at least Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as an Assist Trophy.

Takamaru appears as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. 4. When summoned, he releases 3 Windmill Swords that travel in different directions.
Origin
Takamaru is the protagonist of the 1986 Famicom game The Mysterious Murasame Castle. In said game, he is an apprentice samurai who must protect Edo Japan and four neighboring castle towns from an evil alien menace, residing in the titular Murasame Castle. Armed with only a katana and his wit, he sets off to rescue the people from the extraterrestrial's influence. The game worked similarly to The Legend of Zelda, based on the same engine, and had several power-ups for Takamaru to use, including sandals that let him walk on water, fireballs, throwing knives and windmill swords. While recognized as a Nintendo hero, Takamaru and his game became rather obscure, never making it to any other countries besides Japan, and not receiving any attention up until the Nintendo GameCube era, where the Famicom disk was a treasure in Pikmin 2. Takamaru later was given more attention in recent years, with Samurai Warriors 3 for the Wii having Takamaru as a guest character and retelling the story with a realistic tone, and Captain Rainbow featuring the samurai as a forgotten Nintendo star alongside Birdo, Little Mac and Devil, as examples. In this game, Takamaru was given a larger personality. Besides being a noble, humble samurai, Takamaru became rather nervous around women. He later received his own mini-game in the Wii U game Nintendo Land, and The Mysterious Murasame Castle was finally re-released to Europe and North America on the 3DS E-shop in 2014.
