There are a few notable references in the Shantae costume's reveal trailer. Shantae is introduced on the Great Cave Offensive stage, due to most of her games being Metroidvania platformers with large maps similar to the stage. She is shown fighting {{SSBU|King K. *Shantae shares characteristics as a Mii costume with Sans and Cuphead, as all three are indie characters appearing in 3D for the first time in Smash, and coming with an additional music track. Unlike both, Shantae's track is a preexisting remix.
