Appears in SSB4

Boss Galaga (ボス・ギャラガ, Bosu Gyaraga) are the strongest of the main enemies in the Galaga series by Namco. They appear in Super Smash Bros. 4 as items. If a player gets caught by its tractor beam, they will be taken to the top of the screen and over the upper blast line, similarly to the Beetle if the player doesn't mash buttons to escape. Unlike the Beetle, Boss Galaga will fly to the top of the screen when thrown, then fly in formation as it did in its home series. After such, it will dive down and home in on the targeted player's last known position and fire its tractor beam. If it misses, it will fly offscreen and do nothing. If a Boss Galaga is hit by attacks, it will take damage (indicated by turning blue). If hit when it is blue, it will be destroyed.

Origin

In Galaga, Boss Galagas appear as one of the common enemies of normal stages. When they would fly down, they would fire their tractor beam at the player. If they don't miss, the player's ship is captured, and Boss Galaga with the player's ship fly back up to the swarm, and the player loses a life. If Boss Galaga with the ship is defeated, the captured ship moves downwards towards the player, and if they make contact, the player will be able to control and fire both ships side-by-side at the same time. In SSB4, Boss Galaga retains its appearance and sounds, and for the most part, its functions from the original game. In Galaga, Boss Galaga takes two hits to defeat. When it is hit once, it turns purple, and it explodes when hit twice. This is kept in SSB4- Boss Galaga, like items such as bombs and containers, is able to be destroyed before picked up for use. It can also be damaged while being held, as it hovers in mid-air, or during when it fires its tractor beam. In Galaga, a short theme plays when the player's ship is captured by Boss Galaga as it flies up to the top , and nothing is heard when it fails to capture it- this is the same in SSB4 as well.
