Article on Zelda Wiki Gerudo Valley

Gerudo Valley is a stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. The stage is set in the Gerudo Valley area, which first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is one of two currently revealed stages from the Zelda universe in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, alongside Spirit Train.

Overview

Battle in the Gerudo Valley stage.

The Gerudo Valley stage is fairly long, being a mostly flat, grounded stage. The stone and natural flooring serve as solid platforms, and a bridge crosses the chasm between the two stretches of land. Two canopies stand on each piece of land, providing soft platforms for characters to stand on. A desert wind will blow across the stage, for aesthetic effect. The colour scheme of Gerudo Valley is generally brighter than it was in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Origin

Gerudo Valley in Ocarina of Time 3D, before the bridge is fixed.

Gerudo Valley first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, being an area that would lead to the Haunted Wasteland. The Gerudo Valley stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS bases its visual design on Gerudo Valley's appearance in Ocarina of Time's Nintendo 3DS remake, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Indeed, as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS bases its stages on handheld games, Ocarina of Time 3D could be considered the true origin of the Gerudo Valley stage.

The canopies that have been added to the Gerudo Valley stage were not present in Ocarina of Time. The river seen in the background of the stage was also lower down in its games of origin, and it now flows from a waterfall, which was never present in those games. For most of Ocarina of Time, the bridge in the Gerudo Valley area had broken, and dangled into the chasm below. However, it is fixed towards the end of the game, meaning that the Gerudo Valley stage is set either before or after the events of the game.
