Item class Throwing/Setting/Explosive

The Motion-Sensor Bomb (センサー爆弾(ばくだん) , sensā bakudan, lit: Sensor Bomb ) (Proximity Mine in PAL versions of SSBM) is an item seen throughout the entire Super Smash Bros. series that will attach itself to the nearest solid part of the stage when thrown, be it ground, wall, or ceiling. It will then stick there until something hits it, be it an attack, a character or an item. If touched, it will explode and deal out a great deal of damage and knockback. When lying on the ground after spawning, it will be gray but once activated, it'll glow green and beep quietly to warn the players. One can attach the Motion-sensor Bomb to the side of a stage by rolling into the edge of the stage and jumping and throwing it down. In the NTSC and PAL Melee Beta, it was going to be a mine from Perfect Dark, but was changed to the one in Goldeneye 007.

  • Direct smash throw does 15% damage.
  • Tap A throw does 12% damage.
  • When it explodes, it does 28% damage.

Origin

In GoldenEye 007, there is an item called a proximity mine. The proximity mine is used as weapon against enemies. The player simply throws the mine on the floor and waits for the enemy to walk by it. If the enemy gets too close to it, it explodes. It is also possible for the same person to be killed by his or her own proximity mine. In the Super Smash Bros. series, the proximity mine is renamed to "Motion-Sensor Bomb" and it acts the same as it did in GoldenEye 007. There is also a proximity mine in the game Perfect Dark, and it acts the same exact way it does in GoldenEye 007, but it has a different design. The design of the Motion-Sensor Bomb in Super Smash Bros. and Melee resembles the design for the proximity mine seen in GoldenEye 007; however, the design in the Japanese version of Melee resembles the proximity mines from Perfect Dark. The design of the Motion-Sensor Bomb in Brawl doesn't resemble either mines. [1]

Game: Perfect Dark

Trophy Info (SSBB)

An item that, when placed, will detonate when someone gets too close. It can be stuck on ceilings, walls, and floors. It doesn't matter who places this thing--it'll explode regardless of who passes by. Its explosive power is high, and it launches players with ease. It's small and lies almost flat on surfaces, so it can be very difficult to see.

Trivia

  • The Melee trophy said its area of origin was secret, but the Brawl trophy verifies it originates in the Brawl universe. This is because in Melee the item was from Perfect Dark/Goldeneye 007, while in Brawl it is a new design made specifically for the Smash Bros. series.
