Filipino Boyfriend (formerly known as PSIPSY and Honor) is a Filipino-American Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Flash 2 player from San Diego, California.
History[edit]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
McAelan did a singular casual tournament in Super Smash Bros. Brawl using tourney mode. After winning, he met a Sheik player by the name of xRage, who introduced him to the world of competitive Smash. This permanently altered his life's trajectory with esports and Smash.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend began competing in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U under the tag bc_almac during 2016 and 2017, participating in local and school-related events. While official tournament records from this period are unavailable, his results include a 2nd-place finish at a Nintendo Tour Bus event and appearances in middle school news feature qualifiers. He used 
throughout his Smash 4 tournament appearances, and primarily used the Nintendo 3DS XL as his controller of choice. He logged in 8,000+ hours of Smash 3DS, mainly practicing with amiibos.
Super Smash Flash 2[edit]
During his competitive SSF2 career, he competed under the tag PSIPSY from 2019 to 2020.
Early crew history[edit]
Before founding his own crew, he was a member of several SSF2 crews, including Smashers Next Door, Smash Circus, and 0verExtend.
Classy & Flashy / PlayRiDise[edit]
In 2019, he founded the Classy & Flashy Crew (C&F). The crew experienced a difficult start, placing 7th out of 10 teams in Season 3 of the SSF2 Crew League in March 2020. Following a rebrand and roster revamp, C&F became PlayRiDise (PRD), with him serving as captain.
Under his leadership, PRD quickly rose through the SCL rankings, developing a reputation as one of the most welcoming and supportive crews in the SSF2 community. He guided PRD to the #1 ranking in Season 4 before retiring from competitive play in August 2020, passing leadership of the crew to JMi.
PRD legacy[edit]
Following his retirement, PRD remained one of the strongest crews in the SCL under JMi’s leadership, frequently competing with Aftermath CX (AFMCX) for the top ranking. During this period, PRD and AFMCX traded championship seasons, with PRD winning roughly half of the seasons and AFMCX claiming the remainder while both crews consistently remained among the highest-ranked teams.
Despite stepping away from competition, he continued to maintain ties with PRD and occasionally provided crew battle advice, including during PRD Season 5.
PRD eventually disbanded in 2024, after which AFMCX became the leading active crew in the SCL before the league became inactive.
SSF2 Tournaments[edit]
His strongest tournament performances under the tag PSIPSY included winning ARSC Smash Strike 2020 and qualifying for the Oasis Invitational bracket. He also achieved notable placements at several major SSF2 events, including a 3rd-place finish at GBATG Weekly #1, a 1st-place finish at get rekt, and a 9th-place finish at the Oasis Invitational Bracket. In the event, he reached game 5 last stock against the #1 SSF2 Marth player, ARO | Oreocackester, in Oasis Invitational Pool B.[1]
Following his tournament performances, he was invited to join All Real Ones (ARO), a historically prominent SSF2 crew known for its success before the creation of the SSF2 Crew League. ARO was ranked as the #1 crew during SCL Seasons 1 through 3 and was considered one of the most successful crews in the early SSF2 competitive scene. However, he declined the invitation, as he had stepped down from PRD and felt his competitive SSF2 career had reached its conclusion.
His improvement throughout his competitive career was reflected in the Flash Collective Rankings. Competing as PSIPSY, he was ranked 53rd globally in Winter 2019 and reached a peak ranking of 13th in Summer 2020. The Flash Collective Rankings later became inactive following the transition of the ranking system to Miraheze in 2021.
During his competitive period, he was regarded as one of the strongest Pac-Man players in SSF2. He reached the #1 ranking among Pac-Man players during his active competitive tenure, and was later recognized in legacy rankings as the #2 Pac-Man player in North America behind Kyoz and the #3 Pac-Man player globally of all time behind Kyoz and ARO | Aneron.
Tournament organization[edit]
In addition to his competitive achievements, he was also involved in tournament organization within the SSF2 community. He created TSS: The Salty Suite, a tournament series focused on competitive SSF2 events, and founded the Battle of the Flash Brothers Series, another tournament series within the game's community.
He also served as a co-tournament organizer for various SSF2 weeklies and major events, including the Spikes and Snipes Memorial, contributing to the organization of competitive events within the scene.
Retirement recognition[edit]
In October 2020, members of the SSF2 community organized PSIPSY Saga, a community tournament held in recognition of his retirement from competitive SSF2.[2][3]
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
From 2019 to 2023, Filipino Boyfriend competed under the tag PSIPSY in the Scripps Ranch Power League, a high school tournament circuit where he also served as one of the organizers. During this period, he won multiple events and finished ranked 1st on the league rankings, primarily using 
.
Following his graduation from high school in 2023, Filipino Boyfriend took a competitive hiatus before returning to the San Diego Ultimate scene in late 2024. Upon his return, he competed under the tags Honor and later Day1 while attending San Diego State University. After joining the Aztec Esports Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team, he adopted his current tag, Filipino Boyfriend.
Since returning to competition, Filipino Boyfriend has shifted his primary focus from to 
, while also developing 
as another competitive option. He continues to use and 
as secondaries in Southern California. He has competed primarily at Aztec Games events and other local tournaments throughout Southern California. At Aztec Spring Games 2026, he placed 9th out of 39 entrants and defeated SDPR-ranked player $$$.
Community involvement[edit]
Outside of competition, Filipino Boyfriend has contributed to the Smash community as a commentator across SSF2 and Flash Party tournaments, and has also served as a substitute commentator at Aztec Games.
Character choices[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend's character choices are heavily influenced by his personal experiences with the Super Smash Bros. series and his interest in unconventional characters.
Pac-Man[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend first began using Pac-Man competitively in Super Smash Flash 2 after discovering advanced techniques involving the character's bonus fruit, trampoline, and Hydrant. During the 2019–2020 SSF2 competitive era, he became known for his creative Pac-Man setups and was regarded as one of the scene's most innovative Pac-Man players. He also documented Pac-Man's frame data and created an extensive guide detailing the character's tools and applications for the McLeodGaming Official community.
He later brought Pac-Man into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, becoming his primary character due to the character's technical depth and creative potential.
Ness[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend's connection with Ness began during Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where he became interested in the character after seeing Ness's role in The Subspace Emissary. This early attachment led him to use Ness throughout his scholastic Ultimate career before later incorporating him as a secondary character during his collegiate career. Despite maining Pac-Man for a year into his collegiate career, he entered a set with SDPR-ranked player $$$, where he lost Game 1 but switched to Ness for Game 2 and 3. He won 2-1 and recorded his first PR win.
Villager[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend used Villager during his scholastic career due to his interest in the Animal Crossing series. Although no longer a primary competitive choice, he occasionally uses Villager in friendlies, matchup practice, and side events.
Pit[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend experimented with Pit due to his familiarity with the character from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where his sister played Pit. He later developed Pit as a competitive secondary after advice from players such as $$$ and Rinne, who recommended the character as a way to improve his neutral game and fundamentals.
Ice Climbers[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend became interested in Ice Climbers after seeing a pair of Ice Climbers cosplayers at an event and expressing interest in doing a similar cosplay with a future partner. This experience contributed to his appreciation for the characters, which later led him to pick them up competitively. He was drawn to the character's technical difficulty and high skill ceiling, particularly the execution required for advanced zero-to-death combos and the unique mechanics involved in playing the duo effectively.
Character variety and side events[edit]
Filipino Boyfriend is known for frequently using a wide variety of characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate side events. Rather than restricting himself to his tournament roster, he uses side events as opportunities to represent more of the game's cast and challenge himself with characters he does not normally bring to serious competition. His goal is to have as much Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character representation as possible, even if a character is only used for a single event.
Rivalries and ditto challenges[edit]
Within the San Diego State Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ecosystem, Filipino Boyfriend has developed a reputation for challenging teammates to character ditto matches. He has made it a personal goal to defeat as many players as possible using their own main character against them, treating these matchups as both a challenge and a way to test his understanding of the game's roster. He describes the motivation behind these challenges as doing it "just because he can."

- Has been featured in a YEET Smash clip compilation following Aztec Spring Games 2025.
- Has never owned a Nintendo Switch throughout the lifespan of his Smash Ultimate "career" until August 6, 2026, and still to this day has no copy of Smash Ultimate.
