Aztec Games is a recurring gaming event series hosted by Aztec Gaming at San Diego State University. The event features tournaments from multiple games and competitive communities, including recurring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments. Since 2018, Smash tournaments at Aztec Games have been held as part of seasonal events such as Aztec Winter Games, Aztec Fall Games, Aztec Spring Games, and Aztec Infinite Games.
The Smash events have featured both singles and doubles formats and have included members of the Southern California competitive scene, including San Diego PR players and notable regional competitors. The largest tournament in the series, Aztec Winter Games 2019, featured 157 entrants and was held as part of SoCal Ultimate League Season 4.
History[edit]
The first Smash event under the Aztec Games series was held at Aztec Winter Games 2018 on December 8th, 2018 with 66 entrants. This tournament hub page was originally compiled and documented by Filipino Boyfriend.
The following year, Aztec Winter Games 2019 featured a 157-entrant bracket and was held as part of SoCal Ultimate League Season 4.
Following interruptions in scheduling, Aztec Games later resumed hosting Smash events through recurring Fall and Spring iterations. Later events continued to feature members of the Southern California competitive scene and expanded into additional formats such as doubles tournaments.
The first SDSU Smash bi-weeklies were hosted in February 2026, which is established as VELOCITY. The series is part of the broader SDSU competitive Smash circuit and serves as a consistent grassroots weekly/biweekly environment for players in the San Diego area.
