Centurions (イカロス, Icarus) are rank-and-file soldiers of Palutena and Angel Land.
Origin
In the original Kid Icarus for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Centurions in Palutena's army were turned to stone by Medusa's army. Centurions play a large role in boss fortresses. On those particular levels, Pit can find mallets and use them to break open statues scattered around the area, freeing the Centurion trapped inside. When Pit eventually reaches the boss chamber, any Centurions that he rescued will fly in and attack the enemy. However, this only effectively damages Twinbellows; Hewdraw is too hard to hit and Pandora will beat them with ease. The Centurions in Kid Icarus would perish after being hit a single time, though they could attack repeatedly in the original game. They did not return for the sequel, Of Myths and Monsters; Centurion statues are present, but they only hold items now.
Centurions return in Kid Icarus: Uprising. Centurion Assists can be found throughout the game, temporarily providing cover fire for Pit. During the Aurum invasion, a group of Centurions assist Pit in reaching the Aurum Brain, and Pit has to protect them from enemies while they escort him. Centurions also appear as enemies while Palutena is possessed by the Chaos Kin. This game also introduces multiple varieties of Centurions, including Centurion Knights and Centurion Strongarms.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Centurions appear in Pit's Final Smash Palutena's Army. The Centurions fly onto screen one-by-one, ramming into other players at incredibly high speeds. When hit by a Centurion, the opponent takes a range of 15-25%. Each Centurion deals a single attack to a character, and then falls in battle. During the course of the attack, Centurions can be destroyed by enemy attacks; however, due to Centurions' high damage output and speed, it is far more preferable to dodge.
Trophy information
- Palutena's Army
- Pit's Final Smash. An image of the goddess Palutena appears, heralding the arrival of Palutenas's Army's legions, the Centurions. These flying warriors proceed to attack all enemies with fierce savagery. Once a Centurion strikes an enemy, he falls from the sky, never to fly again. Centurions are so fast that dodging them is very hard. Take heart, Centurions! Your deaths are not in vain!

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Because Pit received a new Final Smash, Centurions do not return in any gameplay capacity for Super Smash Bros. 4. They only appear as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, with an updated model based upon their redesign in Uprising.
Trophy information
- Centurions
- The standard soldiers of Palutena's Army, Centurions make up in loyalty and number for what they lack in power. They have time and again fallen victim to a curse that turns them to stone, but the head of Palutena's guard, Pit, saves them with the use of a stone-breaking mallet.
- These little guys are Palutena's soldiers. What they lack in strength, they more than make up for with dedication. A long time ago, they were turned into stone and scattered across the world. Luckily, Pit managed to free them with his Mallet, making them even more loyal to our hero!
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
A Centurion appears as a Spirit, using their artwork from Uprising. This spirit can be acquired in the Light Realm or randomly via the Spirit Board, using Pit as its puppet fighter. The Centurion's core is required to summon the Pit (Original) spirit.

Trivia
- The Centurions in Brawl are largely faithful to their original artwork from Kid Icarus. Therefore, unlike Pit and Palutena, their redesign in Uprising was not influenced by their appearance in Brawl.
