IMPACT MAJOR 4 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major held in Machida, Tokyo, Kantō on August 2nd, 2026.
Tournament Summary[edit]
As the first Japanese major held after the half-Year cutoff, this tournament was less stacked compared to the previous edition, being an A Tier tournament and not a A+ Tier. Nevertheless, several top 10 Japanese players were present, including Miya, who was the first seed. After a shaky first half of year, this victory reaffirmed him as one of Japan's strongest players, winning the tournament with only 5 games lost in total (1 to Syadou and 4 to Gorioka). He notably 3-0'd TamaPDaifuku after several close encounters in the past (such as their game 5 sets at Kagaribi 12 and DELTA 9).
Gorioka continued his meteoric rise since the previous Impact Major, entering grand finals of a major for the first time in his carrier. As the tenth seed, he sent to loser's #7 seed Harupoyo and #2 seed Yaura (UF 5) in game 5 sets to make top 8 winner side. Both victories are notable, as he scored his first win over the first, and used Aegis and not Joker to win the second. In top 8, he beat #3 seed Shuton (UF 4) for the fourth time in a row, before losing in a game 5 to Miya in winner's finals. He made grand finals loser's side after beating #4 seed KEN 3-1 (UF 3), where he lost to Miya in another game 5 set.
KEN's run was also notable. Before reaching winner's quarters, he beat #36 seed Onjoji and #20 seed Reno, two players twho had upset him in the past, before facing TamaPDaifuku, where he lost 1-3. To make top 8, he eliminated Harupoyo at 9th place, using only Sephiroth. He then fought #8 seed Tea, using Sephiroth for the four first matches, before switching to Sonic to beat Tea's Pac-Man in game 5 set, his first win on him since GENESIS X in early 2024 after 3 consecutives losses, eliminating him at 7th. Similarly, he then faced Shuton, stayed with Sephiroth for four games before going Sonic, defeating his Aegis in another game 5, more than 1 year since his last victory over him. Lastly, he scored his first win on TamaPDaifuku after 5 losses before bowing out to Gorioka at 3rd.
Outside of Gorioka's run however, the number of upsets were relatively low, as Gorioka and #11 Uame are the only non-top 8 seeds to make into it. The Olimar main notably beat Yaura in loser's eighths (who had his first win on Shuton the month prior) 3-2 before losing to TamaP 1-3 for 5th place. Lastly, one of Japan's biggest rising stars of 2026, #6 seed Saya, got upset by #38 seed Marcos (UF 6) and #62 seed LiiMac (UF 7), both in 1-3's, to place 25th.
Other underperformances include Shirayuki's 97th's place (going 1-2, losing to #141 seed K2 2-3 for a UF of 7 and #52 seed Konokururu 1-3 for a UF of 4) and Ryuoh's 65th place (also going 1-2, losing to #53 seed Ike 0-3 and #69 seed Hanadon, UF 5 and 6 respectively).
