MELEE-FC1 was a Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament that occurred from July 9th-10th, 2004. It had 98 entrants in singles, which was a record at the time. It was the first of the MELEE-FC tournaments in South Bend, Indiana. It established a base ruleset which would be adapted for the MLG tournaments, with stage neutrals, bans and counterpicking and the use of four stocks per game. As a compromise between the different regions, the round robin pools had items on but the final bracket had items off.
Ruleset[edit]
- 4 stocks, 10 minutes.
- In at least round robin pools, items were on low.
- At least the Heart Container, Maxim Tomato, Super Star, Hammer, Cloaking Device, Party Ball, Super Mushroom, Poison Mushroom, Metal Box, and Red Shell were off.
- In at least singles bracket, items were off.
- Starter stages (9): Final Destination, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Fountain of Dreams, Dream Land, Pokémon Stadium, Mute City, Rainbow Cruise, Poké Floats. The starter stage was chosen at random.
- Counterpick stages (15): Icicle Mountain, Princess Peach's Castle, Kongo Jungle, Jungle Japes, Yoshi's Island, Green Greens, Corneria, Venom, Flat Zone, Brinstar, Onett, Big Blue, Mushroom Kingdom, Mushroom Kingdom II, Kongo Jungle N64
- Banned stages (5): Hyrule Temple, Fourside, Brinstar Depths, Great Bay, Yoshi's Island N64
- Prior to selecting the starter stage, each side could ban one stage for the whole set.
- Dave's Stupid Rule variant: The same stage could not be played more than once per set.
Two different versions of the ruleset appeared on the official site,[1][2] with one version using the above item rules and stating that items were on in doubles bracket, and the other version stating that Bob-ombs were also off and that items were off in doubles bracket. It is not confirmed which version of the ruleset was actually used.
