Apex 2009 was a tournament hosted by Alex Strife. It was the inaugural tournament of the Apex series. It is also the tournament that replaced Apex 2008, which was a planned Brawl tournament for the New York Smash scene that was delayed.

Ruleset
Procedures for stage-striking, life-stealing, double blind picks, and third-party/modified controllers were incorporated into all rulesets.
SSBM
General rules
- 4 stocks
- 7 minute time limit
- Items are set to "Off".
- Wobbling is prohibited.
- Freezing glitches, such as the freeze glitch and Soul Stunner, are prohibited.
- Stalling is not allowed.
