Comicpalooza Fight Club 2025 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major held in Houston, Texas from June 21st-22nd, 2025.
Tournament summary[edit]
Referencing the last event, ShinyMark was seeded to play Pugi in a rematch from their previous year on steam, where Pugi won to knock ShinyMark out of bracket in pools. This time, despite SD'ing twice to lose game 4, ShinyMark won 3-2 avenging his previous loss.
Due to the event's relatively small size compared to other open majors, being among the top 10 smallest open majors in Ultimate, there were relatively few notable upsets and early eliminations that took place at the event, a sharp contrast to the previous year. The most notable early elimination was the first seed, Onin, who lost to #16 seed Marss 2-3 in Winners Round 1 before being eliminated by #2 seed Light 2-3 for 9th; Light himself was knocked into Losers by #7 seed Peabnut 0-3 (upset factor 4), marking Peabnut's first win on Light after a 7 set losing streak. Aside from Onin, Lima was the only other top 8 seed who did not make top 8, as he was knocked into Losers by #5 seed ShinyMark before being eliminated by #6 seed MuteAce for 9th. In place of Onin and Lima, Marss and #21 seed Dany made top 8, the latter player making top 8 at a major for the first time in his career. With no Steve players in top 8 and the top 8 featuring a lineup of characters that had strong representation in Ultimate's first year (Zero Suit Samus, Pikachu, Mega Man, Joker, Palutena, Peach, Fox, and Wolf), many viewers felt the top 8 was similar to one that took place in the early metagame. Audiences were especially anticipating the projected Winners Finals match between Marss's Zero Suit Samus and MkLeo's Joker, both of whom have not fought in a competitive tournament using those characters since Marss defeated MkLeo at GENESIS 7 in 2020.
However, the projected match between Marss and MkLeo did not happen, as both players lost their Winners Semi-Finals set, with Marss losing to ShinyMark 2-3 and MkLeo losing to Peabnut 0-3. Both players then lost game 5 in Losers Quarter-Finals and were eliminated at 5th, with Marss losing to Light and MkLeo losing to MuteAce. In Winners Finals, Peabnut defeated ShinyMark 3-0 to advance to Grand Finals on the Winners side, the first major Grand Finals of his care, while ShinyMark was able to defeat Light in Losers Finals 3-2, his first win over Light, to face Peabnut in the runback. ShinyMark ultimately took the tournament in a 6-0 fashion, with all 6 sets taking place on Battlefield and ShinyMark timing out Peabnut in 2 of the sets. This marked ShinyMark's second major/supermajor win as well as the closest a Mega Man player came to winning a major since the early metagame.
