From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
The SmashHai Power Rankings are the power rankings for Shanghai, the largest city in China. Competitive Smash in Shanghai started as a grassroots effort by expatriates in 2015, who quickly found and merged with Smash 4 players native to Shanghai. A nationwide ban on consoles lasted from 2000 to 2015, rendering Melee and Brawl significantly less popular to native players. Though Melee occasionally appears as a side event at tourneys, Ultimate is the dominant competitive Smash game in Shanghai. Melee is growing throughout China via its netplay scene. Many of Shanghai's expatriate players left the country after the COVID-19 pandemic started. In-person events once enjoyed by the scene suffered from pandemic related restrictions and online play is made difficult by low quality internet connections in the country. SmashHai social media pages indicate some activity in the scene throughout 2021 and 2022.
