Hades (ハデス) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Holywood actor James Woods reprise his role in this game.

Attributes[edit]

Hades is a light heavyweight fighter with a powerful strength on his arsenal, because of that, he is generally slow and some moves have tons of end lag frames, but not without some hard-hitting moves that can K.O. his opponents rather quickly.

Moveset[edit]

  • This fighter ability works similar to Sephiroth's Winged Form and Lucario's Aura, which is called Hellish Hothead, the twist is that he will use this form when he keeps losing the fight from his opponents. Hades starts off at 0% and when hit enough by his opponent, the damage and knockback of his moves will modify, like the usual, however, if he gets K.Oed by the opponent, he will apply bonus stats based on the amount of stocks and points he lost, as well as changing his standing animation from normal to cocky around half of stocks. When he is down at the last one, Hades will turn his face red and his hair flares up when at high percentage (less with one stock and high with many stocks), giving him more strength and range of his attacks, high dashing speed and gain super armor frames to all of his normal moves for the rest of the match, making him a threat. On the Vs. match with only one stock applied and gets at 100% of damage, he will immediately activate the form.
  • Hades has another fighter ability similar to Bayonetta's Bat Within and Mythra's Foresight called Cursing Darkness, except when the opponent hit him when he is doing a dodge, he will leave some shadowy smoke after teleporting with a finger snape, dealing small amount of damage as well as inflicting the Curse status for a short amount of time.

Ground attacks[edit]

Attack Description Damage
Normal Hellish Hothead
Standard attack Hades extends his arm and drops a pile of orange emblems onto the ground in front of him. Has a little startup and ending lag here. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the embers becomes a multitude of explosive bursts, dealing high knockback at high percentage. 4% 8%
Forward tilt Hades claws the opponent with his right hand that is covered in fire, then follows up with a left one in a uppercut motion before ending by firing a small flame bullet from his finger. The latter has small range. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the fire becomes larger and the bullet covers much more range. Based on both attacks he used in the KINGDOM HEARTS series. 3%, 4%, 3.2% 6%, 4.3%, 4%
Up tilt Hades points up a finger, out of which trails a thin dragon-headed trail of fire. The head of the dragon is the hitbox, having moderate priority with below average startup lag. In his Hellish Hothead mode, another trail is released from the dragon's mouth, except is colored in green, much like the blood of Hydra, dealing multiple hits, with the former having a wider hitbox. 8% 13%
Down tilt Hades briefly sprays small amount of flames from his hands in front of him while crouching, guarantee multiple hits. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the flame gains a ton of range, but still briefly. 2% (hits 1 to 3) 3.7% (hits 1 to 3)
Dash attack A swirling ball of green fire appears in his hands as Hades holds it forward before it dissapears. The fireball can hit foes while Hades is holding it, dealing average knockback. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the fireball becomes a little larger, covering more of its range. 2% (hits 1 to 3) 3.7% (hits 1 to 3)
Forward smash Hades reaches into his hair, pulls out a ball of fire, and begins swirling it around in his hands before hurls it with great force before vanishes with mid range. It can be angled up or down, but if the latter is angled, the fireballs bursts into a violent explosion. In his Hellish Hothead mode, not only the fireball will be bigger, but also briefly leaves a trail of fire from the ground. Based on the Hellfire attack from the KINGDOM HEARTS series. 13.6% (forward and upward), 15.9% (downward) 17.6% (forward and upward), 19.2% (downward)
Up smash Hades rises both hands and claps above his head, similar to Donkey Kong's, except it leaves a medium-sized explosion. The explosion has a large hitbox and can catch off guard to opponents in mid-air. In his Hellish Hothead mode, a pillar of fire rises from the ground that covers Hades after clapping, reaching the orthogonally upward X Bomb-like range. During the charging motion, a small circle of flames will surround him, trapping the opponent while dealing multiple hits. 15.4% 21.1%
Down smash Hades thrusts his palms in front and behind, releasing blasts of fire, similar to Lucario's, except a bit slower. Deals decent knockback. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the blasts become columns, reaching further range. Based on his Temper Flame attack from the KINGDOM HEARTS series. 14.5% 17.2%

Aerial attacks[edit]

Attack Description Damage
Normal Hellish Hothead
Neutral aerial Hades turns into a strange blue tint for a split second, before turning back to normal. There is moderate startup and ending lag. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the tint will be red and gains more frames, making it more noticable. 9% 12.6%
Forward aerial Waves his hand that causes a flaming spiral to appear in front of him. If used during a short-hopping though will cause Hades to have a longe ending lag. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the spiral gains a wider hitbox. 6% 10%
Back aerial Turns around and sticks an arm backwards, causing high aerial knockback. In his Hellish Hothead mode, he gains a sweepspot in his hand if used closely. 9.5% 14.1%
Up aerial Points his finger upwards in a very short distance, with his hand slightly turning into smoke. If the opponent gets hit by it, two smokey wings will appear on the opponent's back for 24 frames, although is used for cosmetic effect. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the smoke hand's range will be closer. 2% (hits 1 to 4) 3.8% (hits 1 to 4)
Down aerial Points both fingers down, causing a small ring of fire to appear and rapidly expands for 20 frames before it dissapers. He can't move until the ring has vanished and can cause to spike opponent beneath Hades. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the ring is much bigger, but loses its spike priorities. 6% 13.2%

Grab and throws[edit]

Attack Description Damage
Normal Hellish Hothead
Grab A tether recovery. Hades stretches his arms forward while turning them into smoke. It is unique because the arms can be controlled in 8 directions while having the distance of Link's Hookshot, though only the hands can grab the opponent and made him vunerable. All the grabs and throw are exactly the same as in Hellish Hothead form, just doing more damage. -
Pummel Hades' fist holding the foe around their neck suddenly erupts in flame. It is very slow, so slow that he can pummel them once. 4% 5%
Forward throw Throws the opponent forward as they explode in a burst of flame. 7% 9%
Back throw Tosses the opponent backward while turning, then snaps his fingers to make them explode. Has the highest aerial knockback of any character ever. 7.2% 9.7%
Up throw Throws the opponent up toward his head, causing his hair to flare up slightly and torch them. Can potentially K.O. an opponent at high percentage. 8% 11.2%
Down throw Magically blasts his opponent on the ground, turning them into a bug creature before he stomps at them, turning them back to normal once finished. Each character differs based on their weight, cricket for lightweight (which can KO them at 60%), a spider for middleweight and a beetle for heavyweight. 6.6% 8.4%

Other attacks[edit]

Attack Description Damage
Normal Hellish Hothead
Floor attack Extends both hands and slashes in a half circle, as he stands up, creating a fiery purple cross shape in front of him. 6.5% 9.1%
Edge attack Points his finger behind him to make a small explosion as he floats up onto the stage. 8.1% 11.2%

Special moves[edit]

Special move Name Description Damage
Normal Hellish Hothead
Standard special move Deal with the Devil A Counter move. Hades sticks out a hand in front of him, saying rapidly, "How 'bout we shake on it?" with a short range. By holding the button, you can keep out his hand for as long as you want. It can be cancelled by pressing the button again. If the opponent attacks Hades, he will grab their hand (or a paw) and grasps it tightly, as magical blue light streams from their joined hands. During the move, the foe glows a sickly reddish color as it deals multiple hit damage, and once released, its attacks will be weaker for 10 seconds. In his Hellish Hothead mode, the effect lasts for 15 seconds. It can be cancelled by having the foe mashing the button. 2.2% (loop) 3.2% (loop)
Side special move Helm of Darkness Hades equips Cronos' Helm of Darkness and turns invisible. He will stay in this form for 5 seconds and can't use the Special move again until he reappears, and unlike Meele's Cloaking Device, he will still take damage and knockback during this, but, he gain the ability to pass through opponent and automatically steal projectile items from them and use it at anytime, but can only use one set of ammo at a time. -
Up special move Fire Storm Hades transforms his body into an orb of smoke and fire as it hovers a tiny distance above ground. While he is stationary, he heals 1-2% damage per second. If done in the air, you can move anywhere around with the analog stick. The travel is slow and lasts for 10 seconds or until you press any button. Anyone who touches the orb gets stunned. 7% 8.2%
Down special move Reporting for Duty! Hades yells either Pain or Panic as they appear at his feet. Hades teleports into the background as he sits in his throne, temporarily gaining the ability to play as either minion. Both characters are much weaker than their master, as such, they tend to be beaten much faster, however, their startup and end lag are much much shorter and have high attack speed. For every 10 seconds, Hades gets bored and this removes his stats bonus one by one, so you have to use Mission Complete! to prevent it. Both imps have their own movesets, though they can only use their Special Attacks. -
Final Smash Freedom of the Titans Hades began to cover himself with a flaming barrier that briefly expands for 44 frames before it vanishes. When hitting the opponents, a cutscene will trigger where they are dragged into a rocky background with purple sky as the four freed titans attacks them while Hades laughs evilly in his dark chariot. The Rock Titan punches the ground to send pillars of rock, the Ice Titan will freeze them with his cold breath, then stomps at them, the Lava Titan stomps his foot to shoot a pool of lava to burn them, and finally ending with the Tornado Titan sucking them inside before shooting them upwards. If Pain or Panic broke the Smash Ball instead, they will appear in Hades' dark chariot as a bonus. 45%

Special moves[edit]

Pain[edit]

Special move Name Description Damage
Standard special move A Sucker for a Sucker Pain takes one of the spiked lollipops Hades tried to give baby Hercules and tosses it forward with a stupid snicker, traveling at the same range as Link's Boomerang before it returns. Anyone hit by it gets it in their mouth for 5 seconds. Pain can throw another sucker to a opponent that has already the sucker in the mouth, which deals double damage. 3.2%, 5.6% (double damage)
Side special move Wall of Pain Pain takes out a small vial, full of swirling pink liquid, and tosses it to the ground violently. This forms a smokey wall that is the size of Ganondorf in front of Pain. It is used as a good defense against anyone who wants to hit him, but that doesn't mean he is safe in the back or above. It can be taken out in 7 hits by opponent or wait for 30 seconds to vanish. If Pain pulls a second wall out, the first wall will instantly vanish as he cannot spawn more than one. -
Up special move Flight of the Imp Pain's wings strech out for better flight and he has a controllable recovery for 2 and half seconds. By pressing B, he dumps green liquid from a Gatorade-esque bottle of green liquid on opponents. It deals no damage, but pushes down foes slightly like the FLUDD. It can be cancelled by pressing the shield button. -
Down special move Mission Complete! Pain turns to the background and bows to Hades. In response, the Lord of the Dead teleports Pain away, while appearing back on the battlefield himself, his throne vanishing. This takes a split second to do, and neither Panic nor Hades can be harmed while switching. -

Panic[edit]

Special move Name Description Damage
Standard special move Head of Medusa Panic pulls out a stone shield in front of him, depicting the head of Medusa. Anyone who touches it will be turned to stone, making them take the damage and leave the knockback. The opponent stays stone for a second. You can break free by moving the analog stick side to side. The downside is that Panic has to get close in order for the move to execute. -
Side special move Thorn in Your Side Panic spits a small thorn out of his mouth at foes. It has absurdly low priority, but Panic has almost no lag on either ends. Each thorn stuns a bit and allows him to pepper you with damage unless you make direct contact to him. 1.2% (each thorn)
Up special move Trail of Tears Where Panic is standing, a trail of magical gold dust appears. This allows him to move in any direction (except straight up or down) for 3 seconds. He has a bit of defense on him since he's allowed to attack and dodge during this recovery. If he's attacked during his airwalk (or if time runs out), he falls into a helpless state. This is usable once in midair, but it does give back his jumps. -
Down special move Mission Complete! Same as Pain -
