==Methodology==
PGstats gave a group of 26 panelists made up of top players, tournament organizers, and analysts the following prompt:
''"Based on quality and quantity of results from March 1, 2022 to July 11, 2022, rate each player on a scale of 10.0 (best) to 4.0. Who performed the best at offline events over the course of the season? You may give the benefit of the doubt to players who attended more events during the ranking period. You are expected to consider their results at regionals and majors. You may consider their results at out-of-region events. You may consider their results at serious invitationals, but keep in mind that players who qualified for reasons other than merit received an opportunity they otherwise may not have gotten. You may consider their results at locals ONLY IF they lack sufficient data for you to make an informed judgement without local results."''
Panelists were allowed to abstain from scoring particular candidates if they felt they did not know enough about them without affecting the player's overall score. If enough panelists abstained on a candidate, they would be disqualified. This did not occur during this ranking. Once the scores were obtained, they would be normalized for consistency. Afterwards, each player's score would be calculated using a weighted average with higher weights given to an individual rating the closer it is to the interquartile mean of the given player's scores.

MPGR Summer 2022
Period active March 1st-July 11th, 2022
Region North America
Game(s) supported Super Smash Bros. Melee
Producer(s) Panda

The MPGR Summer 2022 is an upcoming list of the best 50 players in North America for Super Smash Bros. Melee.

On November 19th, PGStats announced that the rankings were to resume on January 1st, 2022.[1] However, the starting date was postponed due to the rising cases of COVID-19.[2] On February 2nd, 2022, PGstats announced their plans on setting a new start date to March 1st and that they would be monitoring the state of the pandemic before giving a final confirmation on February 17th.[3] Although the date came and passed without a confirmation, the season nevertheless began on March 1st and lasted until July 11th with Double Down 2022, a month after the end of the PGRU v3. Due to a lack of major tournaments in Europe that season, only a North American list will be produced.

Methodology

PGstats gave a group of 26 panelists made up of top players, tournament organizers, and analysts the following prompt:

"Based on quality and quantity of results from March 1, 2022 to July 11, 2022, rate each player on a scale of 10.0 (best) to 4.0. You may consider their results at locals ONLY IF they lack sufficient data for you to make an informed judgement without local results."

Area 51

Hours before they began unveiling the regular top 50 rankings, PGStats released a list of players who most closely missed the cut for the MPGR Summer 2022 top 50, known as "Area 51." They were unranked between each other, and as such are all considered to be effectively ranked #51. This marks the first time a major Melee power ranking did an "Area 51" list.
