The Panda Global Rankings (PGR) was a biannual list compiled by Panda Global Gaming's PG Stats team ranking the world's top 50 professional players in the international tournament scene for forwiiu.

The Panda Global Rankings (PGR) is a biannual list compiled by Panda Global Gaming's PG Stats team ranking the world's top 50 forwiiu smashers. The first list was released on May 27th, 2016.
The Panda Global Rankings were compiled entirely from the analysis of major tournament results (Though initially, results from smaller local events were also taken into consideration). Beginning with the third iteration, a system titled the "Tournament Tier System" was introduced that grouped events into four tiers--S, A, B, and C--based on attendance count and the amount of PGR-ranked players. A point-based version of the Tournament Tier System was later introduced for the PGR 100. Also beginning with the third iteration, an extended section of the rankings titled "Area 51" listed the players that had just barely missed the top 50. A separate and subjective ranking titled "X-Factor" lists the top players via voting from a pre-selected panel of players. This panel of players features groups of players from specific regions. The amount of players within each group is relative to the size and activity of the competitive scene from their respective region.

The second list will be fully revealed on January 13th, 2017.
When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released, the competitive Super Smash Bros. for Wii U scene seemingly entirely switched over to the new title. As such, the Panda Global Rankings Ultimate has effectively replaced the original Panda Global Rankings. Panda Global also compiles the Melee Panda Global Rankings, an analogous list for Super Smash Bros. Melee, which replaced the SSBMRank list in 2018.

Trivia
PGR v1 (January 2015 - May 2016)
*The PGR's Area 51 is a reference to Area 51, a United States Air Force facility in Nevada that is subject to frequent conspiracy theories due to its secrecy.
The first list was compiled by 48 panelists and the PG Stats team -- Dom, suar, and Zan and took into account tournament results from Apex 2015 to 2GGT: Fresh Saga. The players' rankings are purely based on tournament placings and set counts, with a heavy emphasis on 7 major events: Apex 2015, CEO 2015, EVO 2015, Paragon Los Angeles 2015, The Big House 5, GENESIS 3 and Pound 2016.

It also includes a separate and subjective metric voted on by the panelists referred to as "X-Factor", which follows a more similar approach to Melee It On Me's SSBMRank. A player's X-Factor is the difference between their PGR ranking and their spot on the list that the surveyors rated them at. A player with a very positive X-Factor would theoretically be a notable figure in the community feared by top players but would not have the results to back him up. On the other hand, a player with a negative X-Factor would be somewhat of a "hidden boss" showing impressive results and wins with a lack of acknowledgement from the community. The full list was revealed after LVL UP EXPO 2016 and Get On My Level 2016, but was created before those tournaments started, making some of the set records and notable wins exclusive to the time beforehand.

PGR v2 (May 2016 - December 2016)
The second list will take into account results from LVL UP EXPO 2016 to 2GGT: ZeRo Saga included. Spike, juddy, and Giant were added to the PG Stats team to more accurately cover the Japanese, European, and Mexican scenes. The tournaments included are classified into tiers according to the number of ranked players attending and the number of entrants in general, with tier 1 including major events and tier 4 locals. Just like the first rankings, a heavy emphasis is put on 6 tier 1 tournaments: CEO 2016, EVO 2016, Super Smash Con 2016, The Big House 6, UGC Smash Open, and 2GGT: ZeRo Saga. The X-Factor metric will make its return as well.

Panelists
The subjective components used to determine the X-Factors were derived from a survey that was sent to over 50 community members from around the world.

The United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Europe, and Australia were represented among the 48 individuals who were surveyed that answered back.

This article is about the power ranking for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's version, see Panda Global Rankings Ultimate.

The Panda Global Rankings (PGR) was a biannual list compiled by Panda Global Gaming's PG Stats team ranking the world's top 50 professional players in the international tournament scene for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Trivia[edit]
