The event features a variety of competitive video game events, including Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and also previously held Super Smash Bros. for Wii U events. The Smash events are organized by Scarlet Smash, Rutgers' Smash club, and is one of two notable end-of-semester tournament series organized by the team, the other being Fireside Open for the fall semester.
The Scarlet Classic has historically been the largest esports event at Rutgers University, and likewise has featured players from all across the Tristate area. Currently, the largest Smash event is the Ultimate singles event at The Scarlet Classic V, which featured 346 entrants.
