|October 7, 2013||Pic of the day. Here's a close-up snapshot of Fox McCloud's Blaster. It can open up.||Showed the redesigned appearance of Fox's Blaster when opened up while firing.|
|October 8, 2013||Pic of the day. Sonic's standard attack is also known as PPK. He finishes off his move with a side kick.||"PPK" stands for "punch, punch, kick" and is derived from Sonic's appearance in Sonic the Fighters. The PPK is a common attack type for most jabs.|
|October 9, 2013||Pic of the day. If it's just a missile, a sword can slice it right up. Of course, you could also just use your bare hands.||—|
|October 10, 2013||Pic of the day. The shield that can deflect things with a little "clunk!" is still around. There's a slight reaction to the impact this time, so brace yourself.||Confirmed that the Link and Toon Link retain the ability to block projectiles with their shield, though they will react to blocking projectiles with it instead of remaining idle.|
|October 11, 2013||Pic of the day. Wii Fit trainer is flexible even while sleeping.||This was posted the Friday before the weekend of the worldwide release for Pokémon X and Y. He was expected to reveal a playable Pokémon to coincide with the game's release, as he had done with other characters with their respective games.|

|October 18, 2013||Pic of the day. We have absolutely nothing to announce today regarding Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Really!||Confirmed the appearance of Xerneas, without stating nor hinting at what capacity it appears in, later confirmed to be a Poké Ball Pokémon. Sakurai's comment poked fun at the expectation of a new character reveal coinciding with Pokémon X and Y.|
|October 21, 2013||Pic of the day. What a great sound a Meteor Smash makes when it slams on an opponent! …Which, I'm sure, you can't tell by the picture.||Sakurai's comment implied that meteor smashes will have a new distinct sound when landed.|

|October 28, 2013||Pic of the day. The graphical differences of the Spin Attacks are clear. The way they hit are actually very different too.||Showed off the new green trail Toon Link's Spin Attack produces, to help visually differentiate it from Link's.|

|October 31, 2013||Pic of the day. The trial version of Wii Fit U is available now! We'd like to share this pic to commemorate the occasion.||Confirmed the appearance of the male Wii Fit Trainer in some capacity. Sakurai confirmed him to be an alternate costume for the Wii Fit Trainer during a future Nintendo Direct. This was unprecedented in Smash, being the first alternate costume that changes the character into another character instead of simply altering their clothing.|
|November 1, 2013||Pic of the day. Kid Icarus: Uprising is now available to download via eShop in Japan. By the way, we gave a makeover to Pit's pose when he's shooting his bow and arrow so it looks sharper. Do note that all images are still in development. This and past pics may be different from the finished product. Thanks for understanding.||Sakurai confirmed Pit will have a different pose when firing Palutena's Arrow. He additionally remarked how what has been seen in the pics of the days is still in development, and could end up different in the finished product.|
|November 4, 2013||Pic of the day. Is this a spaceship from Hocotate? No-this is a bomb SHAPED like a spaceship. After liftoff, it will drop down when you least expect it.||Confirmed a new item: a bomb shaped like the Hocotate Ship from the Pikmin series. Sakurai's implied that it crashes down at random after liftoff.|
|November 5, 2013||Photo strip of the day. Plant it, water it, and then timber! It's high maintenance but totally worth the effort! It needs tactics like never before.||Three images combined together, to show off the steps to Villager's tree planting move.|
|November 6, 2013||Pic of the day. Link's downward strike was designed to change to a Meteor Smash when the tip of the sword is aligned just right at the start. However, it will be removed if it's deemed too powerful overall after some multiplayer play tests.||Confirmed Link's down aerial has gained the ability to meteor smash, though Sakurai warned he may remove it if he finds it to be too powerful after testing.|
|November 7, 2013||Pic of the day. Marth joins the battle!! Once again, everyone will be overwhelmed by his magnificent sword skills!!||Marth confirmed to return as a playable character, with a redesign based off his more recent appearances in the Fire Emblem series.|
|November 8, 2013||Pic of the day. We gave Marth a full makeover, giving him design elements from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and newer games.||Sakurai showed off the aforementioned new design of Marth.|
|November 11, 2013||Pic of the day. Here are the familiar capsules--these guys deserve a prize for being in every single game. We gave them a cute redesign by shortening their length a bit.||Capsules previously appeared in their Melee and Brawl design in the Developer's Direct at E3, but are now shown to be redesigned, now being shorter and wider.|
|November 12, 2013||Pic of the day. Marth's sword has a powerful tip! So we gave his sword slashes a sharp look with an emphasis on its edge.||Confirmed Marth's sword will retain its tipper gimmick, with trails being much brighter at the tip to visually signify the sweetspot of his sword.|
|November 13, 2013||Pic of the day. The Villager's bug catching net that was shown in the movie is actually a grapple move. It is sort of like Link's Clawshot and Samus's Grapple Beam.||Villager's net was confirmed to be a grab move, hinting that it is his grab. It is now known to be his grab.|
|November 14, 2013||Pic of the day. The characters' thick outlines are only available in the 3DS version. Only the external outline is thickened and won't appear in instances like when the hands or feet are overlapping. It's got a softness to it and is not just black.||—|
|November 15, 2013||Pic of the day. A new stage, Mario Galaxy!! The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics.||Confirmed a new Mario stage based on the Super Mario Galaxy games. It is additionally confirmed to have an entirely new stage concept, with the stage's gravity emanating from the center of the planet, instead of from the bottom of the stage. This means characters and projectiles will traverse around the planet's curvature instead of straight, and jumping or getting launched upwards from the edge will cause the character to move diagonally.|
|Here's what happens when you stand by the edges. Vertical jumps and getting hit upward will shoot you up diagonally.|

|November 20, 2013||Pic of the day. The giant wind mill in the right-hand side of Windy Hill. It keeps on turning even though it can't fit in the screen, so you'll find yourself in trouble if you're on it for too long.||Confirmed a prior unseen stage element in a wind mill on Windy Hill Zone. It additionally confirmed that it lies beyond the stage boundaries, so characters that stand on it for too long can get carried past the blast line.|
|November 21, 2013||Pic of the day. Super Mario 3D World is out today in Japan! To commemorate the occasion I had these four…people(?) come together in a group shot.||—|

|November 26, 2013||Pic of the day. Here's the new edition of the Ray Gun. The Smash Bros. mark appears backward because it acts like a stamp. We design the Ray Gun carefully each time to ensure it doesn't look like a real gun.||Confirmed the return of the Ray Gun as an item, as well as its new redesign that makes it appear less realistic.|
|November 27, 2013||Pic of the day. Sonic, failure.||Showed off the intangibility Bowser now gains on his shell during his up smash.|
|November 28, 2013||Pic of the day. A Dark Train goes full-steam ahead.||Confirmed that Dark Trains appear on the Spirit Train stage.|
|November 29, 2013||Pic of the day. A red-black effect now appears when you're hit by a strong blow. It'll only appear when you have high damage, so when you see this you're in trouble--and you're probably about to get KO'd!||Confirmed a new visual effect to accentuate when a landed blow produces especially high knockback.|
|December 2, 2013||Pic of the day. Turnips are used in the Villager's up-air and down-air attacks. Perhaps because the turnip prices fluctuate depending on the day's market, the number of turnips that appear changes every time. How cute.||It is now known that the amount of turnips increases damage dealt.|
|December 3, 2013||Pic of the day. Pop quiz! Who is this monster, and where is it from? The cage may serve as a hint.||Confirmed a Find Mii stage, as well as the appearance of the Dark Emperor in it. The Dark Emperor is now known to be a stage boss that breaks platforms, and buffs or nerfs characters according to their colors.|
|December 4, 2013||Pic of the day. Excuse me, sir--a little help with the ball? There was once a game called Mega Man Soccer, by the way.||—|
|December 5, 2013||Pic of the day. The Villager's special attack, the Lloid Rocket, is a projectile weapon like no other--you can either launch it or ride on it. When you fire it off, keep pressing the button to hop aboard--you can even control its speed. It's more powerful when you're riding it.||Confirmed the Gyroid as one of Villager's special moves.|
|December 6, 2013||Pic of the day. Here's a new Assist Trophy--the Skull Kid! I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter. The characters announced on the website are the fighters!||Confirmed the Skull Kid wearing Majora's Mask from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask as an Assist Trophy. This is the first reveal of an Assist Trophy character, and by extension, confirmed the return of the Assist Trophy item. Sakurai additionally assures that playable characters will always have a corresponding page on the official website when revealed, unlike nonplayable characters like Assist Trophies.|
|December 9, 2013||Pic of the day. Q: "Is this a Steel Diver?" A: "Yes, indeed, that is a Steel Diver." The sub from Steel Diver is now a cute projectile weapon--it launches torpedoes that fly slowly at first.||Confirmed a new shooting item, the Steel Diver.|
|December 10, 2013||Pic of the day. There weren't a lot of people who used the Shield Breaker to break people's shields, so we've now made it much more powerful. This pic is from immediately after a shield break.||Confirmed that Shield Breaker will receive some sort of power buff due to its relative lack of use in Brawl.|
|December 11, 2013||Pic of the day. Yar, I wants to watch some o' that Smash action, too, ye great beast!||First screenshot of the Tortimer Island stage, which wouldn't be seen in full and named until March.|
|December 12, 2013||Pic of the day. Dismantle! Unite!! Yellow Devil!!!||Showed off how the Yellow Devil attacks.|
|December 13, 2013||Pic of the Day. The breed of the Nintendogs Assist Trophy has changed to a French Bulldog. It looks so real! Tell me that doesn't bring a smile to your face.||Confirms the return of the Nintendog Assist Trophy. It additionally confirms that that it will be a different breed of dog this time around, and that its function will remain the same.|
|December 16, 2013||Pic of the day. Uh-oh, someone's observing from afar. That's no good. The Yellow Devil will come flying in from the background.||Confirmed how the Yellow Devil enters battles on Wily's Castle.|
|December 17, 2013||Pic of the day. In the train stage, the rear car can change during battle. It'll detach and move backward, so be careful! This pic features the Linebeck Trading Company, which is being transported for some reason.||Confirmed that the caboose of the Spirit Train detaches and drifts offstage.|
|December 18, 2013||Pic of the day. N-now wait a second, let's talk this through! We don't wanna miss today's Nintendo Direct, right?||This pic of the day showed nothing new, with Sakurai just promoting the Nintendo Direct being shown later in the day. It was later replaced after the Nintendo Direct with the below image.|
|December 18, 2013||Without further ado, a new fighter from a faraway galaxy joins the battle! The video is also a must-see!||Posted midday after the Nintendo Direct. Rosalina's trailer was posted on Miiverse, but the new picture of the day (left) was only shown on the official site.|

|December 19, 2013||Pic of the day. Rosalina and Luma can be right by each other or set farther apart. They're both controlled by the player, so a smash attack can be done from far off. Remote control all the way!||Confirmed that Luma is controllable away from Rosalina.|
|December 20, 2013||Pic of the day. A Luma becomes a star. Lumas are tough, but can also be blown away. Luckily, there's an infinite number of them.||Confirmed that Luma can be attacked and KO'd like other characters, and that Rosalina can respawn it an infinite number of them.|
|December 23, 2013||Pic of the day. Rosalina's got height! She is seriously tall! However, she boasts an anti-gravity effect, so she's very light.||Confirmed that Rosalina will be a very tall but very light character, akin to Zelda and Mewtwo.|
|December 24, 2013||Pic of the day. Happy Holidays! Here's a new 3DS stage--Rainbow Road! It can't be explained in one picture, but it's going to be a cruise-type stage.||Confirmed a new cruise-type Mario Kart stage for the 3DS version based off of Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 7.|
|December 25, 2013||Pic of the day. Yellow characters.||Starfy was confirmed to return as an Assist Trophy.|
|December 26, 2013||Pic of the day. To celebrate the launch of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in Japan, Zelda joins the battle!! It's great to see so many female characters this time around.||Confirmed Zelda's return as a playable character, retaining her Twilight Princess design. Sakurai also specifically remarks about the increase in the amount of female characters, which is unusual as the increase had not been very significant at the time.|
|December 27, 2013||The pic of the day that runs Monday through Friday will be on break starting Dec. 27. I'll be back on Jan. 6, so I hope everyone has a happy new year!!||A placeholder image of Battlefield left on the site's pic of the day, while Sakurai took a week long break.|

Pic of the day. There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.
|January 7, 2014||Pic of the day. Zelda's strong side attack. It's a slash attack that utilizes her magic to make even a simple slash look sharp.||—|
|January 8, 2014||Pic of the day. The ropes surrounding the ring. You can actually use the stretchiness of the ropes to do a spring jump. However, you can't pull on them to launch yourself sideways in a lariat attack though.||Confirmed the ropes on the sides of the Boxing Ring act like springs.|
|January 9, 2014||Pic of the day. Watch out for the Shy Guys driving down Rainbow Road.||Confirmed that Shy Guys in karts appear in the Rainbow Road stage.|
|January 10, 2014||Pic of the day. Celebrating the launch of Kirby: Triple Deluxe in Japan, King Dedede joins the battle! Check out his evocative facial expressions on the official web site.||Along with his return, Dedede was shown to have a much more cartoonish appearance, with exaggerated facial expressions to match.|
|January 13, 2014||Pic of the day. King Dedede uses one of the strongest side smash attacks in all of Smash Bros. Use this attack wisely in battles.||Confirmed that Dedede's forward smash retains its incredible power.|
|January 14, 2014||Pic of the day. Rosalina and Luma's attacks are very different. This screencap shows Rosalina producing a Saturnian ring for her strong up attack.||Confirmed Luma will have its own moveset.|
|January 15, 2014||Pic of the day. Who's the girl next door, living in the haunted mansion? You'd better learn my name because it's…||Confirmed that Ashley from the WarioWare series is a new Assist Trophy.|

To be clear, the new Super Smash Bros. games do not feature a story mode like The Subspace Emissary.

|January 21, 2014||Pic of the day. This is the Luma Shot, which highlights the different ways to control your Luma. You can switch between controlling the Luma alongside Rosalina or away from her.||—|
|Today is the 15th Anniversary of the launch of the first Super Smash Bros. There may be some players out there who played it on the Nintendo 64 as kids that have grown into adults.|
|January 22, 2014||Pic of the day. There are many changes being made to attack and defense options for grabbing edges. In this picture, Link is actually trumping Mario's grab.||This confirmed the first major gameplay change, with the ledge's mechanics being majorly altered for the first time in the series, with characters being able to steal the ledge from other characters. Also confirmed that characters' ledge attacks no longer change whether they are above or below 100% damage.|
|Some other changes include:|
-Air time and accumulated damage will determine your period of invincibility while hanging on an edge.
-Grab controls will no longer be affected by whether you have above or below 100% damage.
|January 23, 2014||Pic of the day. This is definitely not a friendly girls night out…||Confirmed that Viridi appears in the Reset Bomb Forest in some capacity. This image was released on the day after the Palutena "leak" was first revealed online.|

|Confirmed that Toon Link will not simultaneously appear in battle and as a background character on the Spirit Train, and in a series first, showed that background elements on stages may change depending on the participants in the match.|
|January 27, 2014||Pic of the day. Rosalina's down special move, tentatively called the Gravitational Pull, sucks up items and weapons. Weapons will be disabled when using this move, of course. You have to shake the Wii Remote to perform this move in Super Mario Galaxy, but you won't need to do that in this game.||Besides giving some information on a move seen in Rosalina's trailer, Sakurai indirectly confirmed that motion controls will not be required in the game.|
|January 28, 2014||Pic of the day. The Beetle item from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a comical item that grabs characters and carries them into the air.||Confirmed a new item, the Beetle, that can be thrown at opponents, pick them up, and fly them into the air. It is now known to carry characters past the upper blast line.|
|January 29, 2014||Pic of the day. You can find this statue of the Goddess of Light in one of the stages. She's watching over the arena.||Confirmed a new Kid Icarus stage for the Wii U version, now known as Palutena's Temple. Much of the community believed that Sakurai was aware of the recent Palutena rumor and made this related post in response to it.|
|January 30, 2014||Pic of the day. Both Link and Pit use bows, but when they fire simultaneously, their arrows meet and cancel out closer to Pit. Besides attack power and projectile speed, there are many elements that affect tactics, such as accuracy, vulnerability after attacking, and even seemingly unrelated features like a character's physical abilities.||—|
|January 31, 2014||Pic of the day. The heroic Aura Pokémon, Lucario, joins the battle!! We've increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with.||Confirmed Lucario's return along with a buffed Aura.|
|Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago. The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster--without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle.|
