Template:PokeballPokemon Staryu, known in Japan as Hitdodeman (ヒトデマン, Hitodeman), is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Staryu is a five-sided starfish. Staryu is all gold-colored with a red jewel in the center. Staryu is able to attack other Pokémon through it's red jewel. Staryu can also release water from the top point on its head. If one part of its body parts is destroyed, as long as the red core is intact it can regrow them. When weakened, its red core flashes slowly. Staryu eventually evolves into Starmie, which is purple in appearance with another row of points, and is accredited with high defense.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Staryu appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee out of Poké Balls. Its attack is identical to the attack of its evolved form Starmie from SSB. It will fly around the screen to find another character to shoot at. Once it stops moving and targets a character, Staryu will start to use Swift. Staryu will not move once it starts using Swift. Any character that makes contact with Swift will take damage. Any character can also take damage if they touch Staryu while its using Swift. Staryu's attack does not harm the summoner.

As a trophy

Staryu features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 250+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

These Starshape Pokémon that evolve into Starmie are found in large numbers at the seashore. At night, Staryu's red center glows and blinks on and off. It's said that as long as its red center remains, it can regrow its limbs. Whether it's related to Cleffa, another Pokémon with a vaguely star-shaped appearance, is unknown.
