Planet Tallon IV

Tallon IV is the main setting of Samus' first encounter with Phazon. Originally inhabited by the Chozo, they were forced off of the planet by a meteor which spread Phazon which struck 50 years before Samus arrived. Most left it for an unknown destination, the rest died out or became corrupted Chozo Ghosts. Samus managed to annihilate the Space Pirates' dreadful experiments, and destroy the source of the Phazon, Metroid Prime.

It used to be inhabited by the Chozo race, but they left due to an encounter with the deadly Phazon. A meteor struck the planet, spreading Phazon throughout the ecosystem. Monsters infected by Phazon quickly appeared, and their own kind were being corrupted by the substance too. The Space Pirates discovered Tallon IV after the destruction of their base on Zebes. Its powered amazed them, and they began to perform many experiments on local lifeforms using the Phazon. Samus arrived later, picking up a distress call from the Frigate Orpheon. After she escaped the Frigate, which was destroyed after she killed the Parasite Queen, she begin to explore the ruins of the deceptively ancient-looking civilization and uncovers the reason why the Chozo disappeared. She then discovers that the Space Pirates' have installed research laboratories and a mining facility among these ruins, intending to use the native mutagen Phazon to enhance their forces. Step by step, obtaining upgrades to her Power Suit on the way, she ruined their efforts, destroying the Omega Pirate and defeating Meta Ridley. Finally, she encounters Metroid Prime in the Impact Crater, defeating it and ridding the planet of Phazon. She then left the planet to rebuild itself, leaving for a new destination.
