MomoCon 2025 was a convention held in Atlanta, Georgia from May 23rd-25th, 2025, which held a Super Smash Bros. Melee regional and a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate superregional. This iteration celebrates the convention's 20th anniversary and is sponsored by the art studio and Omori creator OMOCAT. In addition to Super Smash Bros., the event also ran tournaments for Rivals of Aether II, Splatoon 3, Mario Party Superstars, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Walkabout Mini Golf, and Synth Riders. It was also the last Mario Kart 8 Deluxe major tournament before the release of Mario Kart World, and the last notable tournament for Super Smash Bros. Melee as it did not return in the next convention.
Tournament summary[edit]
This was the first MomoCon event since 2022 to be considered an A tier or higher for Ultimate. However, the LumiRank TTS used at the event featured several values that were likely outdated by that time. This included Light, who was considered a top 5 player by the TTS despite not being considered a top 15 player by then, and Maister, who was considered a top 20 player by the TTS despite eventually falling out of the top 100 by the half-year ranking. This also meant the event was missing several of the best players in North America at the time, including its top 5 (Sparg0, Zomba Sonix, Tweek, and Onin). In addition, among the top 8 seeds, Lima was the only player to have won an undisputed major over the first half of the 2025 season at the time. Because of this, SmashWiki disputed the event's status as a major, though other sources such as Liquipedia still consider it one.
This event is considered the largest event won by a Hero player, as BeastModePaul won the event without dropping a set, while defeating Maister, Lima, and omega twice along the way. As such, this is also considered the first and only A tier event won by a Hero player. In addition, omega himself went on the best run of his career up to that point, being the runner-up at the event and double-eliminating Light, alongside defeating MuteAce and Wrath.
