I thought it was policy of most wikis, including this one, to make a discussion on the talk page instead of outright removing the tag if you disagree with it (except in very egregious circumstances). I’m not going to add the tag back right now so as to avoid edit warring, but this doesn't seem like an egregious circumstance to immediately remove the tag. 72.203.118.154 05:11, May 8, 2020 (EDT)

Mhm, indeed. And even though I so strongly believe that what you propose will not be accepted, you are correct, we gotta do this right. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 05:25, May 8, 2020 (EDT)

Raichu

Can the part on the SSBU section where Kanto Raichu was mentioned in Pikachu’s Palutena’s Guidance still stay? 174.55.24.64 20:31, June 11, 2020 (EDT)

In my opinion, no, as it's even less interesting than the trivia you tried to add. It was definitely worth adding to that draft page you edited, but mentions generally aren't that interesting. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 20:37, June 11, 2020 (EDT)
To put in my two cents, we do occasionally document mentions on SmashWiki articles, such as Metroid's article stating that it is mentioned in Samus's profile despite not appearing in-game. Raichu's own article even has a SSB4 section listing its Palutena's Guidance mention for this reason.
However, in this case, Raichu does appear in-game in Ultimate, so its mention in Palutena's Guidance isn't as notable anymore in Ultimate; in other words, the mention is superseded by the appearance. So, I agree with Black Vulpine here. Furthermore, while it's implicitly Kanto Raichu due to the guidance originating from SSB4 (predating Alolan Raichu), it's not explicitly distinguished as such, so the edit is incorrect in calling it Kanto Raichu. --PeabodySam (talk) 20:49, June 11, 2020 (EDT)

Weekly tournaments

According to a user on Discord we do allow weekly tournaments on this wiki. However the one you tagged isn't notable enough to warrant a page on here. Image for my signiture icon. OmegαToαd64 07:54, June 14, 2020 (EDT)

The whole tournament series isn't notable. Well, that's what they said. I'm not that familiar with tournaments to determine exactly what's notable or not. Image for my signiture icon. OmegαToαd64 18:44, June 14, 2020 (EDT)
Basically, what he said is, the tournament series has too little attendance, it also has less top players/PR ranked players in attendance compare to the notable ones. Grand Dad.png Naughty🐽GRAND DAD 自閉肥宅 GRAND DAD!? 19:41, June 14, 2020 (EDT)

This edit in Smasher:SleepyK

There are a few reasons for why it was changed:

  • As I understand it, custom reasons should only be used if it doesn't fit any of the existing reasons already. The protection was only prompted by vandalism, thus the existing "vandalism" reason takes precedence over a custom one.
  • Even if it was permitted, the custom reason as it is currently written is misleading and not specific to the actual reasoning for the protection. It was protected due to vandalism, not due to the controversy. Stating otherwise would break our protection policy and enable other users to request protection for pages that don't need it, like Smasher:Clementine.

If one requires more context for the protection than "vandalism", it's expected that they check the edit history and logs for the page. If that fails, they can simply ask the admin who protected it for clarification. For use as my signature icon. Nokii — 12:17, June 29, 2020 (EDT)

This edit summary

You seem to have misinterpreted this trivia point.

The fighters part is meant to refer to the universes themselves, not their rosters. What the trivia is trying to say is that no female characters from said universe, playable or not, are present anywhere in Smash.

Even if the trivia was about universes without playable female fighters, then the list is missing Donkey Kong, Kirby, Star Fox, EarthBound, F-Zero, Wario, Metal Gear, Sonic, Pikmin, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Xenoblade, Duck Hunt (unless the Duck is a girl :P), Street Fighter, Castlevania, Persona, and Dragon Quest, which at that point would just make the trivia absolutely unnecessary.

So yeah, hope you understand. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 06:43, July 26, 2020 (EDT)

Personally I think the trivia is unnecessary as it is now, but okay. Thanks for letting me know. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 18:29, July 26, 2020 (EDT)

Double redirects

Just wanted to mention that you probably don't need to worry too much about double redirects as it turns out there is a bot (SmashWiki Bot) that fixes them automatically (at 4 am EDT). I went ahead and changed the ones earlier because I was bored. --CanvasK (talk) 21:43, August 29, 2020 (EDT)

"You aren't the first"

I probably should've more fully thought through that tag, yeah. I know there are similar anti-vandalism tags on other pages, but this one is kind of specific to this point in time anyway and tagging it won't really do much. "You aren't the first" is supposed to mean in terms of, "you aren't original for putting in this joke everyone else has done 50 times already," but I didn't phrase that very well either. Either way, yeah, probably better to leave it off. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 22:34, October 2, 2020 (EDT)

Definitely. In my experience, putting in such a line will at best do nothing to deter vandals, and at worst, attract them. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 22:57, October 2, 2020 (EDT)

Daisy edit

Hi there. I just wanted to clear up the situation on the Steve page regarding Daisy, and I think we're both talking about two different moments. You mentioned that her taunts look similar to her victory animations, so I think you're talking about the actual moment she is revealed - right before her fighter card pops up. Meanwhile, I'm talking about the end of that section of the video, before Sakurai reveals Inkling gameplay. During that part, you clearly see Daisy's twirling victory animation. I figured this is the closest thing Daisy has to a trailer, so it belonged with the associated trivia.

So yeah. That's where I'm coming from. I won't edit the page any further, but I wanted to clear this up a bit. Qrow - Bad Luck Charm (talk) 01:36, November 8, 2020 (EST)

I’m interested in investigating this further. Could you please provide me with a video link? Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 02:01, November 8, 2020 (EST)
The video's here - Daisy is revealed at 15:32 and does her "Yo!" taunt. At 15:53 the victory screen pops up and she does one of her victory animations, and from there the presentation switches to Inkling gameplay. Qrow - Bad Luck Charm (talk) 22:48, November 8, 2020 (EST)
Hmmmm... I'm on the fence to count that, though. It's not really a reveal trailer per se, but then neither is her showcase video, which is what I've been referring to the whole time. That's putting aside the fact that the trivia point is about reveal trailers, which again, Daisy does not have. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 00:48, November 9, 2020 (EST)
I know it's not a trailer in the traditional sense, but Daisy did still get a pose shown off in her reveal, like Steve and the others. But if you don't think it counts then I won't add it back in. I'm glad we got this cleared up regardless, though. Qrow - Bad Luck Charm (talk) 05:19, November 9, 2020 (EST)

About this edit summary

If you want a suggestion on how to make the sections collapsible, this is the method I've used to make the sections on some of my sandboxes collapsible.
Here's how it works:

=={{SSBU|Banjo & Kazooie}}==
<div class="contentbox mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" data-expandtext="Show" data-collapsetext="Hide">
:'''Banjo''': Ready for this dangerous duo?

:'''Daisy''': I was expecting to see a chameleon and a bat.

:'''Kazooie''': Sorry, [[Wikipedia:Yooka-Laylee|wrong game]].
</div>

Notice the </div> at the end. This is used to separate each folder.
Now here's how the whole method works, with an extra example to show how it works between two different folders:

=={{SSBU|Banjo & Kazooie}}==

Banjo: Ready for this dangerous duo?
Daisy: I was expecting to see a chameleon and a bat.
Kazooie: Sorry, wrong game.

=={{SSBU|Bayonetta}}==

Bayonetta: Didn't your mother ever tell you not to bring a knife to a gun fight?
Byleth (M): I have a bow.
Bayonetta: And I have four guns.

Don't know if there's a better alternative to this, but it's the least I can do. Hope my suggestion helps. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 19:41, January 12, 2021 (EST)

Aha, thank you so much! I knew I had seen such code somewhere else, I just couldn't for the life of me figure out where. ^w^ Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 19:57, January 12, 2021 (EST)
If you'd like some more code to save bytes you can use variables, which is something I never see used on this wiki. They are essentially template parameters, but for normal pages. In this case you can do {{#vardefine:Whatever|class="contentbox mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" data-expandtext="Show" data-collapsetext="Hide"}} somewhere near the top and then replace uses of the stored text with {{#var:Whatever}} in the div. Heck, you can put the whole div into the variable and it works (it'll just look weird because it isn't obvious what the closing div is for). --CanvasK (talk) 20:23, January 12, 2021 (EST)

Not that I would add it back, but I believe what IP specifically meant is that Castlevania is the only multi-fighter third-party universe that wasn't first introduced as DLC. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 09:13, January 26, 2021 (EST)

Regarding your FurAffinity statement

Apologies for starting three discussions on this page in a row, but I feel I need to bring this up.

While yes, explicit porn on FA is disabled for unregistered users (provided the submission is tagged as adult, anyway), what isn't as protected and is very common on the site are submissions that involve "questionable" fetishes (inflation, vore, transformation, etc.). Sure, they don't necessarily fall under "NSFW", but these types of fetishes are known to cause extreme discomfort to people who are especially not into them. I am fairly certain plenty of users on this Wiki do not wish to see those types of posts if they curious in browsing that site (granted, I doubt most of them would even visit FA anyway, but better safe than sorry).

It's still up to you if you want to keep the link or not, but I still suggest a warning for what content may be easily viewable on that site. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 02:27, February 2, 2021 (EST)

I don't see anything wrong with you being the one to start three talk page convos in a row on here, especially since every time, you're coming here to give me advice whenever it looks like I might need it.
Indeed, what you say is exactly the kind of thing I was considering to be a possible problem. However, after taking some time to think about it, even considering what you suggest, I've decided to do nothing else for now, considering that the likelihood of anyone going to FA through that link is very low. I also believe that it's common knowledge that FA is essentially a porn site, even though it's meant to be so much more than that. If an admin comes here expressing concern, maybe then I'll take action to add more transparency, but for now, it's probably not worth losing sleep over. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 02:53, February 2, 2021 (EST)
Ah, thank you for your kind words. I am usually a bit hesitant to start multiple convos in a row on someone's talk page in fear of annoying them, but that's probably mostly due to the history regarding my own talk page (seriously, check the archives of that page, and you'll see why).
Anyway, I suppose you do have a point. After all, the main purpose of that link is to check out the artist rather than the site in general. I only made this discussion because in that edit summary, you expressed concerns about linking to that site due to its content. Perhaps I overreacted a little. I mean, some of the weird fetishes you would find on sites like DA and FA can easily be found in a lot of cartoons, anyway. (*looks directly at Totally Spies*) SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 03:15, February 2, 2021 (EST)
That's the sort of argument I use against those who detract against that sort of tamer stuff anyway. You and me, we're alike in a lot of ways... 😊 Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 03:36, February 2, 2021 (EST)
Indeed we are. Admittedly, I was rather loathsome to those types of kinks at a younger age, but after joining FA (yes i actually have an account on there don't ask why), I have learned to just brush them off entirely. They're still not my thing, but I can accept they're a lot more tame in terms of kink art; and I guess another reason why I'm not as disgusted by them now is because...well, I actually have an anthro animal-related kink myself. ._.
Anyway, I should probably stop my conversation here. Off-wiki conversations should be limited and this whole conversation would probably just continue into being a thread about weird fetishes from here, so yeah. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 04:05, February 2, 2021 (EST)

Voice of a non-furry coming in here. My gut reaction would be "if it can potentially cause discomfort then it doesn't belong on the wiki". In this situation, a simple link to furaffinity shouldn't be a problem, most of us established users already know what they're going into if they visit, and most new and anonymous users would more than likely not even visit the file page in the first place. Realistically the only users who would click on the link are probably already furries, therefore already knowing the stuff they'd expect to find, or users who are really curious. My only concern would be if someone brings it up on the file talkpage or here, yet chances are still very slim.

@SuperSmashTurtles If you'd like to have off-wiki conversations with editors, then I would suggest joining our discord server granted if you're ok with me making fun of Mario Kart Wii and have discussions there, granted these types of topics should still be kept at minimum. Star Fox Taunt edit

Not trying to start a disagreement with you, but I believe what that IP was trying to go for was that both Smash 64 and Ultimate didn't introduce any conversations related to that feature, regardless of whether it's in a certain installment or not. It wasn't the IP that was getting reverted, it was a registered user. Mewtwo and Lucas

Though I do agree the trivia isn't that interesting, I'm absolutely sure it was supposed to be talking about Mewtwo and Lucas's statuses as non-playable characters in Smash 4 specifically (keep in mind they were only trophies when those games first released), not the entire series in general.

I've seen you seemingly misunderstand a lot of trivia edits (even if they don't necessarily belong on the Wiki anyway), so my advice is to read the entire trivia and think carefully about what the trivia is really trying to say before trying to "fact check" it. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 17:22, March 2, 2021 (EST)

Yes yes, that certainly does seem to be a recurring theme in my trivia interpretations lately, doesn't it? I even found myself questioning how I interpreted this one shortly after reverting, but, and as you said and agreed with me, my opinion of it being uninteresting and complex still stands. About commenting to this closed discussion

There was a mention that a part 2 to the discussion would come up in a month, and it has been three months with no mention of when part 2 of the discussion would open. I messaged Toomai a couple times on their talk page to no avail, asked Omega Tyrant since he's an admin and a competitive player, who was just as much in the dark as I was. I believe that the part 2 of that discussion is very important to the wiki since I and many people I know come here for info on tier lists, and had no other idea how else I could have reminded the wiki that part 2 is long overdue since the only user planning the discussions hasn't given any information at all. My bad if that broke wiki rules, I got frustrated. 72.219.72.215 19:43, April 19, 2021 (EDT)

I understand it's frustrating, but the better place is to take it to the admin talk pages, as you have already done. I should point out that a lot of people have been asking Toomai on the Discord as well. While there are no clear answers on when Part 2 will be launched, posting on what is essentially an archive page (even though there's no flag there) is not going to solve anything. "Which ones?"

According to the page for the WarioWare Inc. stage, the two microgames that don't show up if 8 players are present are "Blowin' Up" (the one where you need to hit the party poppers) and Kitty Cover (the one where you need to stay under the umbrella).

That being said, I'm not sure if it's the only stage whose stage hazards are affected by the amount of players cuz i'm too lazy to do a big search-and-check, so I'm not undoing your edit. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 19:48, April 19, 2021 (EDT)

Understood. As I've previously stated, carelessly putting notes in brackets is my pet hate anyway. Not to say that it definitely shouldn't be there, but there's certainly a better way of wording it. And as you say, more research is needed to determine if other stage hazards are affected. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 20:28, April 19, 2021 (EDT)

Copyrighted images

It would appear as though you have uploaded images to the wiki which you have claimed copyright ownership of, and do not allow redistribution of without express permission from yourself. I believe this to be in violation of SmashWiki's image policy, which states "No image can "belong" to any user or group of users. Images "belong" to the wiki once uploaded; if not needed or against this policy, they will be deleted." It seems to me that the policy of the Wiki is clearly that users are not to upload images to the Wiki that they do not want other users to redistribute freely. The copyright tag you created for your image doesn't exist on the Wiki for a reason. Alex the Weeb 06:04, May 24, 2021 (EDT)

Of course I thought about that. However, that policy only applies to images intended for the mainspace, and NOT images uploaded for personal use. The policy is basically just to stop people from claiming mainspace content as their own, but this does not apply to user images. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 06:54, May 24, 2021 (EDT)
No, I don't think that's the case. It says nothing about where the images are intended to be. Note how, for example, the following point about fanart specifies the mainspace, but this one doesn't. Policies should always be assumed to be universal, unless stated otherwise. Alex the Weeb 07:51, May 24, 2021 (EDT)
Alright, let me boil it down. SW:OWN, while not explicitly granting full ownership, states that userpages (and by extension, user images), can only be controlled by other users to the extent of enforcing policies, such as removing personal attacks or enforcing other policies. Even if this same logic could be applied to the wiki policy on copyright, my argument is that as personal property of my own, I only expect my images to not be used in contexts where other people are saying, "oh yeh, these are mine". Furthermore, I happen to know that people ripping off other userpage content has been enforced against in the past on this very site.
All in all though, I think this is a very egregious niggle for you to be harassing me over. If an admin comes along and says they have an issue with it, then yes, I will remove the copyright statements. But as it stands right now, the sole purpose of these images on this wiki is for my personal use, and there is no reasonable expectation to have them used in the mainspace. Ergo, there should not be any problem. Black Vulpine of the 🦊Furry Nation🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 08:09, May 24, 2021 (EDT)
This has nothing to do with ownership of your userpage. This is about you having uploaded content to the Wiki that you do not permit the redistribution of. And I'm not "harassing" you, I'm calmly explaining to you why this situation is problematic. Alex the Weeb 09:00, May 24, 2021 (EDT)
I talked with other admins and we do not see what's "problematic" about this; the only possible issue we see here is Vulpine claiming copyright over artwork he didn't draw instead of attributing it to the artist he commissioned from (if the commissioning artist didn't explicitly hand over full ownership to Vulpine), but that isn't what you're badgering him about. You seem to have a problem in general with the concept of "the letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law", where you take a strict interpretation of what's exactly written down in a policy and hound users over it ("It doesn't explicitly excuse userspace images? Well it must be problematic then!"), rather than considering any actual issues being caused here (a user claiming copyright over a personal userspace image that they have actual copyright claim to isn't going to cause disruption on the wiki, when none of the wiki's actual content depends on it, it doesn't prevent the wiki from deleting the image for whatever reason, and other users aren't going to care about someone claiming copyright over something they uploaded for their personal use). So yeah, unless you can demonstrate how Vulpine is causing any real problems here without just saying "because this policy says so!", then leave him be. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 23:08, May 24, 2021 (EDT)
This. I should also point out that I do have legitimate claims to these items, as while the artworks are not my own, a) the design is my own, and b) each piece was created after the respective artists received a financial incentive/compensation from me. I further point out that asserting copyright over these images doesn't stop the wiki from deleting them for whatever reason, and I fully acknowledge that they have every right to do so for whatever reason, including no reason.
