Apex 2013 was the fourth tournament in the Apex tournament series, held by Alex Strife. It was held from January 11-13, 2013. It was the second-largest Smash 64 tournament in the United States with 96 entrants, the third-largest Brawl tournament of all time with 338 entrants, and the fifth-largest Melee tournament of all time with 336 entrants. Like the preceding Apex tournaments, Apex 2013 had a fair amount of international competition.

The most notable event at this tournament was Salem coming out of nowhere to win Brawl singles using only Zero Suit Samus. Not only had he won one of the largest Brawl tournaments using a character that wasn't top tier, but Salem had not even won any of the Tristate local tournaments he had attended earlier. The results of this tournament, along with Salem's demonstration of Zero Suit Samus' techniques, caused her to rise up on the next tier list and made many players think that she belongs in the top tier. Kikoushi also won the Smash 64 singles tournament, defeating Isai in grand finals, and Armada became the first player to win Apex more than once, winning Melee singles in both Apex 2012 and Apex 2013.

Exhibition

Melee The Links vs The Stinks crew battle

Before the main exhibition event, a team of seven Links challenged team of six well known low tier mains (joined by "The Final Boss" Kage) to a crew battle. Unfortunately, the Links were utterly outplayed, losing by nine stocks and failing to even get one Link to fight Kage. The battle was streamed by 8WAYRUN and can be viewed here on YouTube.

Melee USA vs The World crew battle

The main Melee exhibition event of Apex featured a rematch pitting the best Melee players of the United States against the best of the rest of the world. The teams differed slightly from the previous year's crew battle, as The World added the new threats Gucci and Overtriforce. The USA ended up taking the crew battle, overwhelming The World by a large margin. This time the World did not make it to the final member of the USA crew, who remained undecided between Mango and Mew2King. Had The World made to the end however, the final USA player would have likely been Mew2King, given Mango initially refused to play, opting to watch a soccer game before coming back mid-crew battle to coach the USA. The battle was streamed by 8WAYRUN and can be viewed here on YouTube.

Brawl USA vs The World crew battle

This year, crew battles were extended to Brawl as well, since the Brawl crew battle at the previous year's Apex was cancelled due to time constraints. The World managed to win the crew battle, as Kakera and Ally managed to pull a comeback from the damage done by ESAM and DEHF. Near the end of the crew battle, Vinnie was dropped out due to the USA's decision not to send him against Ally, who has held winning records against Ice Climbers players around that time; mikeHAZE was sent to fight as a substitute, but ended up losing to Ally anyway. Due to time constraints, the battle was streamed by CLASH Tournaments instead of 8WAYRUN and can be viewed here on YouTube.
